Hello NKG,

I am not a doctor so can't give you an answer to your actual question. However, before I had a colectomy I would search out a 2nd and 3rd and even 4th opinion. You even might look for a Naturopath who is familiar with the SCD diet and ask their opinion of it and your current state of health. Malnutrition is common among us with IBD and finding the right kind of foods to eat can sometimes help to turn it around.

If I were you I would do as much research with other health care providers as I could before making this very serious decision to have a colectomy done. For some it is very successful, but for others not so much.

I have colitis and have been working with a Naturopath (you can read my Shareposts about it on the site) for the past 6 months and am feeling better nourished and more energetic than at any time in the past 15 years since my Dx. I was never told I needed a colectomy, but I have been told I was not absorbing food properly, have been chronically underweight, etc.

I think something this serious deserves speaking to a few different kinds of doctors before making your final decision.

Best to you,

Elizabeth
