Q: Self-Catherizing with blood during procedure

My doctor diagnosed me with an overstretched bladder.  I was retaining 1000 cc's of urine, after naturally voiding.  His treatment is for me to self-cath 4 to 5 times a day to keep the bladder emptied.  I have been doing this for 2 weeks, but I worry because I get a little blood on the cath each time I cath.  There is NOT blood in the urine.  I think I am irratating the urethra causing this blood.  Another urologist after examining me, told me I had a slight "kink" in my urethra.  If I don't have a "straight" track to the bladder, could this be causing the problem?

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Polly,

I'm sorry but I can't help you with your question. You've written on a site devoted to Inflammatory Bowel Disease and your question is about bladder issues. You are best to discuss your problem and questions with your doctor.

Good luck to you,

Elizabeth
