How about Mercaptopurine is there a generic for it?
Hi Donna,
Sorry to say that no there is no generic for Mercaptopurine. Either the drugs we take for IBD are still too new for a generic to be an option, or too few of us take a particular drug for a pharma company to be able to make any money from a generic. So, we are stuck having to pay the terribly high prices for the name brand. I pay about $400/mo. for Asacol. Ten years ago when I started taking it at a higher dose I was paying around $200/mo. Pharmaceuticals can be helpful, but it is a racket for making money for the pharma companies.
Sorry to not have better news for you.
Elizabeth
