Q: I have been in remission from ulcerated colitis for about 9 months now. I am now very uncomfortable with constipation, weight gain, abdominal swelling and bloating.

I have also been suffering with some joint pain, have trouble moving quickly and can't get going as fast when i sit for too long. what could be causing my symptoms

Hi Carmen,

 

I think it is best if you discuss these new symptoms with your gastroenterologist. Not knowing your full history or what medications you might be taking for the IBD, or any other illness, there's just no way we can give you an idea of what could be causing your discomfort.

 

Constipation is not typically associated with IBD. But, a medication you are taking could be the culprit. If you are taking steroids, weight gain is pretty typical with them, and swelling and bloating could be caused by any number of foods, medications, etc.

 

Since you have the UC history, it is times like this when you need to get back in touch with your gastro doc to discuss it all.
