Asacol is the brand name for the medication Mesalamine. In pill form, mesalamine has what is called enteric coating on the outside that breaks down only in the gut, so it doesn't get into the blood stream. I believe mesalamine comes in a suppository, so that could be an option for her. But, like I said previously, she needs to discuss this problem with her doctor and ask what other options might be available. The more she doesn't take her medication, the longer it will take to get her flare-up under control.   Good luck to her,   Elizabeth
