Q: My 5 month old son has just had 20cm of small bowel removed, including ileocecal valve, i am worried about his growth. What should i be concerned with? And how can i best feed him to help him thrive?

He had to have this surgery as a matter of emergency when transfered to a childrens hospiital, because the first hispital missed an intussuseption for 3 days and he had a major obstruction plus the dead small intestine

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear of this. You really must speak with your son's pediatrician and gastroenterologist. Your question is outside the scope of what we can answer on this site as we are not doctors. If they didn't have this discussion with you prior to your son's surgery I would call the office and speak to the nurse to set-up an appt. so you can get all of your questions answered.

Best to you,

Elizabeth
