Q: Diverticulosis - recovery time? and, How long do you have to stay on a Low fiber diet?

I found out I have diverticulosis about a 2 weeks ago, I was bleeding and went to the hospital. The doctor put me on a low fiber diet. How long does it take to recover usually? and, How long do I have to stay on this diet before switching to a high fiber diet?

HI Brent,

Sorry, I don't know much about Diverticulitis, you may need to do a web search to find a site that's more targeted to that. Our site deals with IBD, which is either Ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease.

But, with IBD, you usually stay on the low fiber diet until symptoms improve then gradually add higher fiber foods back in and see how your system copes with them.

You may want to speak further with your doctor or consult a nutritionist or dietician.

Good luck,

Elizabeth
