constipation and what can happen

i have been on pain pills on a daily basis for few years, and i know that can cause constpation, but i sometimes dont go for days, and now im experiencing all these joint problems and pain and achy body extreme tiredness, sometimes it wakes me up and i cant even move leg form the pain and stiffness as well as my hand, well its multiple things, can these be a consequence from not having a bowel movement, ive taken laxitives, which didnt work so same day took one of those bottle enimas, i guess you call it, well then went threw severre pain to poass it threw, it was awful, can this eventually be a dangerous thing and cause all these other problems??

Hello Melika,

 

Yes, having chronic constipation can cause other problems like you've described. First you should talk to your doctor about these problems to see if there is a different pain med., or other alternative. A good natural remedy for constipation, and one that helped my husband quite a bit while he was on pain meds. is either prune juice or prunes. Even though they have a bad reputation for taste prunes are just dried plums and they actually taste delicious. Eat one or two prunes per day and see if that helps, if not try increasing the amount to 3 or 4. Or, just drink a small to medium glass of prune juice.

 

It is important, though, to discuss this side effect with your doctor as there could be significant problems later on down the road if you are going to continue to take these meds.
