Q: sulfur smelling burps followed by vomiting

for the past 3 years i have been having bouts of burping a sulfur smell followed by violent vomiting. there is no diarrhea associated with the bouts. It started with the rotten burps which would last for days to 2 weeks, then go away. It comes and goes-weeks or months can go by without an episode, but now vomiting always follows the burps. Once the vomiting starts, it can last for 8 hours to a couple of days. i have a colicky feeling more often than not-wheither i am having a bout of rotten egg burps or not, otherwise, I have no abdominal pain. my doctor told me to take antacids. they failed to prevent and failed to stop the episode once the burping started. I should say for the record i am not eating eggs or anything with eggs or sulfur in it. I am not on long term antibiotic therapy, I take probiotics, I eat healthy and do not lay down right after eating, and I have no food allergies. I havnt found a food or medication that when injested or left out of my diet causes it or relieves it. I have a family history of acid reflux, hernia, gallstones, peptic ulcer, and diverticula. Any ideas about what my next step should be since the antacids didnt work? I have an appointment to see the same doctor on the 17th

Hi Jennifer,

We aren't medical professionals here and the best advice I could give is to seek a second opinion perhaps with a naturopath if you're not getting anywhere with a regular M.D. Or you can try an osteopath, there are M.D.'s but tend to take a more holistic approach to things.

Sorry not to be able to be of more help. But this is something I don't have any experience with.

Best,

Elizabeth
