Q: Stomach problems :(

For quite awhile now I have been having stomach issues.  When I eat certain things I get this knot feeling like there is a rock right under my sternum.  My stomach bloats, I feel miserable, and sometimes get short of breath.  Lately it's been happening more and has been accompanied by occassional vomitting, diarrhea a few days aweek, and very loose clay colored stools!  I have talked to different drs. about these symptoms, but they all just shrug.  Also, not sure this is related, but last night I started feeling like I had to urinate every few minutes w/ not much coming out.  I assume it's a UTI but the pain happens right at the end and feels like everything tightens up and i have a shock like pain that runs down my arms and out my fingertips............I was also having bright red blood with my urination last night.  I'm still having the urge to go quite a bit today, but there is less blood and less pain.  Help, I'm falling apart!

Hi hirwin,

Thanks for writing. First, know that we are not doctors and any "advice" I give is only my opinion based on the question and information you have provided.

It sounds to me like you have at least 2 different things going on. Blood in your urine should be checked out by a doctor as soon as possible because it could mean you have an infection.

As for the gut issues that you describe, it sounds like you might have some food sensitivities going on. I recommend you read my Sharepost about how to keep a food journal - http://www.healthcentral.com/ibd/c/2623/95394/keeping-food-journal - and keep a journal for at least 2 weeks, better yet a month. Chances are you'll see a pattern of what you're eating and how you're feeling within a week or so. It can be helpful to take your food journal with you to any doctor's appointments you have and leave them with a copy. It makes what you are feeling more concrete and you are then sure you don't leave out any critical information that could help them in their diagnosis.

That's the best advice I can give. Of course, if you vomit blood or see blood in your stools you should contact a doctor immediately.

Best of luck to you,

Elizabeth
