Carticosteroid Medications

At a Glance

Carticosteroid medications (commonly called steroids) are powerful anti-inflammatory drugs used to treat severe Ulcerative Colitis flares. These steroids are usually combined with other drugs to yield faster symptom relief.  However, they are only recommended for active Crohn's flares due to the significant side effects.  Alternative treatments are advised for Crohn's disease in remission.
