Reports given at a recent digestive disease conference highlighted several new treatments for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Two of the treatment options were medications prescribed for constipation. Lubiprostone--the active ingredient in the med Amitiza--and linaclotide both appeared to ease constipation-related IBS, researchers said. In another study, hypnosis was found to be superior to conventional therapy for children with abdominal pain from IBS.
