A new study published in the World Journal of Gastroenterology has found that ulcerative colitis patients who are young when they are diagnosed or who are newly diagnosed are more likely to have a severe form of the disease. The researchers say their finding may help doctors begin aggressive treatments more quickly, rather than slowly moving younger or newly diagnosed patients up the range of available treatments.
