Ulcerative colitis patients at higher risk for cancer

People who have ulcerative colitis (UC) have a higher risk of several types of cancer, a new study has found. The study, which included 27,606 ulcerative colitis patients, found 11 sites where patients had an increased risk of developing a tumor. These included the small intestine, pancreas, breast, prostate, nonthyroid endocrine glands, as well as a heightened risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and multiple myeloma. This is in addition to the known colorectal and skin cancer risk associated with UC.
