Race may affect colon care

New research published in the Archives of Surgery has found that Black Americans have less access to colonrectal cancer specialists, suggesting they may not be getting the most timely or appropriate treatment. For the study, investigators looked at data on all 3,219 counties in the United States and found that the higher the population of blacks in a given county, the lower the number of specialists who diagnose and treat colorectal cancer. Researchers also found that counties with large populations of Asian Americans were found to have more colorectal cancer specialists.  Read full story >
