The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has asked the makers of Maalox to change the name of one products. Maalox Total Relief has been mistaken by some consumers as the gentler regular Maalox. But Maalox Total Relief contains an ingredient similar to aspirin, which can exacerbate bleeding in patients who have gastric bleeding from ulcers. The drugmaker says the new, rebranded version of Maalox Total Relief will be available in fall 2010.
