I am not alone

By Andrei Thursday, October 25, 2007

Cool

I never realized how many people live with the problem of incontinence.

Since joining this network I have read or talked to many adults who wear diapers.

The health articles are very helpful.

I just wanted to drop a note to all of you and say Thank You for being here.

I feel much more comfortable as a result of this site.

Anyone use DDAVP

Incontinence is not confined to those adults who wear diapers.  There are many other ways of coping as I've come

to learn.  Medical intervention can correct

many problems, surgically or with medications or a combination of both.

Managing fluid intake and stressful situations can be employed at times...or

simply being in touch with your body and

what fluids or foods might cause those

unwanted bladder events.   External or

internal collection devices (caths, leg bags, etc.) have uses for some people,

too...intermittant or indwelling.

Point is...we might get drawn aside at

times to thinking or believing that diapers

are the ultimate incontinence control

device when I wager that the use of

diapers may NOT be the method for the

majority.  I'm not placing blame on those who do use diapers  --  I have used them on some occasions, myself.  I just feel

that sometimes too talk is presented

about 'wearing diapers' to the exclusion of other means to manage or control

urinary functions.   Often, too, bladder

issues don't just automatically mean

lack of control (incontinence).   Many

experience the inability to pass urine

(retention), and this is a very serious

matter, indeed.

I've been dealing with incontinence for

a number of years, and I've probably

personally talked with a mere handful

of adults who 'wear diapers'...and to them, it was only occasionally.   Yes, I

even belonged to an incontinence support group and very few there used

adult diaper protection on a regular basis.  Even those with lifetime bedwetting issues seem to have found

solutions via medications or other medical/professional treatments.

Point is:  If diapers work for you, fine.

Just don't make the assumtion that 'wearing diapers' is the preferred or usual method to deal with incontinence

even though you have talked to 'lots' of

people out there who wear diapers.

I am still not use to my wife asking me if I wet in the night.I think this is something I may have to accept.
