There were recently some news reports about deaths from "off-label" use of Botox. I've heard some wonderful reports from people using botox for urge incontinence, but, as with any treatment, it's important to look for any recent news or developments to factor into your decision and discuss with your health care provider.
Good luck!
There have been 16 documented deaths due to Botox. Most of the deaths have been children with spinal disorders who recieved Botox to reduce limb spasticity. My surgeon pointed out that no one has died from bladder injections, but they do represent a small percentage of people receiving botox. As Ms. Schmidt said, it's important to talk to your doctor and weigh all the risks before having this treatment. Link to the FDA report:

~Pete
I had Botox injections into my urinary sphincter from November, 1998 to June, 1999. At the time my bladder had a measured capacity of 1.25 ozs., and was going into an excruciatingly painful spasm every 6-10 minutes, 24/7. As then formulated, the Botox worked, but later injections wore off at decreasing periods of time. The Botox worked by disabling my sphincter, so that I leaked continually. The situation was only resolved when my urologist infused RTX into my bladder to kill the offending nerve endings, and, in August, 1999, gave me a sphincterotomy. This saved my kidneys from reflux damage, with the threat of dialysis and, eventually, a kidney transplant. The Botox injections gave me a good idea of what the pshincterotomy would eventually do, I hope this contributes to the discussion.
Pete,
Back in 1998-1999 I had several Botox injections into my urinary sphincter to treat neurogenic bladder. My problem was that, although the Botox worked as advertised, it wore off after successively shorter periods of time. The situation was only resolved when my urologist infused RTX into my bladder to kill the offending nerve endings, and gave me a sphincterotomy, which, together, ended the pain and reflux threat to my kidneys.
Hi Pete,
Good luck with your next round of Botox on Monday. Let us know how it goes.

I hope you hear from others who've had experience with Botox injections for incontinence.
