Those of you who read my posts know that I've been fortunate enough to have access to Botox injections to treat my urge incontinence. My last procedure was in June, and now that my friend "Foley" (a Foley catheter) has left, I thought I'd share the results of my procedures.   To recap,...

Botox paralyzes part of the detrusor muscle in the bladder. The detrusor is responsible for the contraction of the bladder to force urine out during voiding.

Sometimes the bladder will stop working completely for a short period of time after the Botox is injected. This means it will have to be drained manually using a catheter.

There are two choices, either a Foley (indwelling) catheter, or intermittant catheterization. The Foley is more convenient, as it stays in until it is not needed.

I have had to have a Foley for up to three weeks, followed by a few more weeks of intermittant catheterization. It's uncomfortable, but, as I've stated many times before, it's a small price to pay for months of being dry. Hope this helps.
