hello
just wondering if the botox is for incontenece why the foley
i am concidering asking my doctor about this type of treatment but whant to get some info from some one who has had it
thank you
Botox paralyzes part of the detrusor muscle in the bladder. The detrusor is responsible for the contraction of the bladder to force urine out during voiding.
Sometimes the bladder will stop working completely for a short period of time after the Botox is injected. This means it will have to be drained manually using a catheter.
There are two choices, either a Foley (indwelling) catheter, or intermittant catheterization. The Foley is more convenient, as it stays in until it is not needed.
I have had to have a Foley for up to three weeks, followed by a few more weeks of intermittant catheterization. It's uncomfortable, but, as I've stated many times before, it's a small price to pay for months of being dry. Hope this helps.
Pete,
This information is good to know. For anyone considering trying Botox for urge incontinence, your shared experiences will be very helpful. Many thanks.
Best,
Maria
