Protection: Don't Leave Home Without It

Because Botox injections relieve me of my urge incontinence (UI), I sometimes get complacent after I had it a treament. When my UI is "active," it is my biggest problem, usually overshadowing my stress and occasional overflow incontinence.

I have been tempted recently to go out without a pad, but usually won't, knowing what the consequences may be. However, one day last week I was in a hurry to take my daughter to school and then get...

Botox and the Anterior Bladder Wall

As much as I have written about the efficacy of Botox, I suppose I should know the answer to this question, but I don't.

Is it possible to inject Botox in the anterior (front) wall of the bladder?

I have had Botox for urge incontinence three times, and each time the Botox was injected into the posterior (rear) wall my bladder. This is typically the way my doctor performs this procedure, and is due the fact that a rigid...

Botox for Urge Incontinence: How to Get Coverage

Although several clinical studies have demonstrated that Botox is an effective treatment for urge incontinence (UI), its use for this is not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Using it this way is considered "off-label," but it's not illegal. Doctors can prescribe medications for other than their intended usage. However, unless you have a spinal cord injury or some other neurological disorder resulting in voiding dysfunction...

Botox for Urge Incontinence: My Treatment Results

Those of you who read my posts know that I've been fortunate enough to have access to Botox injections to treat my urge incontinence. My last procedure was in June, and now that my friend "Foley" (a Foley catheter) has left, I thought I'd share the results of my procedures.

To recap, I had two Botox procedures this year. In February I received 150 units and although this helped, it wasn't as effective as my previous treatment. I...

Botox for Urge Incontinence: How It's Done

I've written many SharePosts about the efficacy of Botox for urge incontinence. In reviewing my posts, I realized I've never provided information about the procedure itself.

Most procedures use about 200 to 300 units of Botox injected about 10 units at a time. This means about 20 to 30 injections into your bladder. The amount in a unit depends on the manufacturer.

There are a couple of methods used for this procedure, and the...

"Cathing" with Care

Those of us suffering from the many forms of urinary incontinence may find ourselves faced with the possibility having to use a catheter ("cathing") for a period of time. I know many of you are probably familiar with these (unfortunately), but I thought I would pass along some tips I've learned over the years.

Before I go too much further I want to point out that this site, IncontinenceNetwork.com, has several good articles on catheters...

Staying Dry: Summertime Tips and Tricks

I just got back from a family reunion on the Gulf Coast and, while I've just had Botox injections into my bladder to control my urge incontinence, I still have to deal with stress incontinence, which the Botox does not address.

As most of us know, the summer heat and humidity makes this more uncomfortable. Here are a few tips I've learned for dealing with these issues:

Cleanliness. It's important to wash and change as pads...

My Friend "Foley" (Botox)

Well, my friend "Foley" has finally left! Although I needed it, (He? My doctor referred to him as "Mr. Foley! *snicker*) it was a "pain in the bottom!" (Foley came to stay with me after I had intravesical botox injections for urge incontinence.)

Here's a little ditty I wrote about it:
I once had an acquaintance called Foley,Whose job may seem rather lowly. My bladder it drained,And, though it didn't...

Trying Botox Again

Got another round of Botox yesterday. 300 units this time. I came home with a "friend" (foley) but have not had any spasms so far, so hopefully it worked. The procedure was the same, spinal anesthesia, but was not as uncomfortable as in the past. Once I get my foley out I will post the results. Looking forward to drier day!

Hypograstric Plexus Block

As some of you know, I have a fair amount of pain if I void completely. I tried a month on Lyrica, followed by another month on Neurontin, in an attempt to alleviate this pain. There were too many side effects with Lyrica, and the Neurontin was not that effective. So, today I went for a hypogastric plexus block. For those who want to know what it is, the doctor pushes a 6" needle in my back until it passes in front of my...
