Everyone knows that teens have many challenges to go through on the way to adulthood. There's peer pressure, dating, learning to drive, the pressure to fit in, etc. Now imagine in addition to this the embarrassment of not being able to control your bladder at night.
Imagine being reluctant to date a member of the opposite sex because you're embarrassed to tell them you have to wear a diaper or plastic pants to bed. Teenagers can be especially cruel when it comes to people who are different.
When I was growing up they didn't have pull-ups or "Goodnites" so I had to wear adult size disposable diapers or "disposable briefs" at night. They looked and fit just like the Pampers the babies wore with the tapes and elastic leg gathers, so as you can imagine I got teased relentlessly. As you all know kids can be very cruel and merciless.
Still I didn't mind wearing them as it was only at night that I had to put them on and they made me feel much more comfortable (as opposed to waking up in a flooded bed-without the diapers it was like Niagra Falls in my bed!) I also wore pin-on cloth diapers covered with plastic pants to bed.
One time when I was in high school I was working on a project and my partner came over to my house to work on it with me. I had a pair of plastic pants hanging up to dry on the clothesline in the garage. Unfortunately, I forgot to take them down before she came over. I also had a laundry basket which along with some other laundry had a few pairs of plastic pants, cloth diapers, rubber sheets, and plastic sheets folded up. Since I didn't have many friends over it was a habit of mine to leave it out and put it away after school.
Well for some reason it slipped my mind-and it was just my luck that the diapers, plastic pants, rubber sheets, and plastic sheets were right on top. I turned beet red. Fortunately she didn't say anything but the next morning I saw her talking to a group of her friends. They were all pointing at me then they started to giggle. One of them said- "how's it going diaper boy-do you have to wear a bib too?"
Another girl overheard them talking about my bedwetting problem. I guess she felt sorry for me so she came over and introduced herself. She was very sympathetic about the problem and told me that she also had to wear diapers and plastic pants to bed. I couldn't believe it-I thought I was all alone.
I was 17 years old at the time and I'll never forget how kind, gentle, and helpful she was. I got teased throughout high school for my bedwetting-it seemed like the whole school knew. One time some other girls (who were probably friends with the other girls) passed me in the hall and one of them said-"hey diaper boy" then they all started to giggle. Another time a group of girls came up to me and one of them said, "I heard you still wear diapers and plastic pants at night because you wet the bed" at which point one of the others said, "I wonder if he still uses a bottle and pacifier." Then they all burst out laughing.
