Your Definition: Are You "Incontinent?"

By Craig Friday, December 07, 2007

Reading various posts and discussions about incontinence, it seems that people with bladder control problems define incontinence in different ways. Some people mention their incontinence, yet only need modest protection during long time intervals without bathroom breaks.

I fell into a 2nd group, since I somehow didn't consider myself "fully" incontinent, yet have to wear diapers nearly full time. I only recently realized my distinction between "full" incontinence and "near-fully" is meaningless. I am incontinent, and there are certainly worse things.

How do others here label their incontinence?

What's in a name: incontinence briefs, or diapers?

Hello Craig,

You pose a great question. While we wait to hear from others on how they define their incontinence, here's some related information:

I read somewhere a definition that said incontinence was when control problems became a problem in your life.  To me that means it's largely self-defined -- a problem in your life may not be a problem in another person's.

There's so much that could be defined as "incontinence" that there's more than one answer.
