Selecting incontinence protection: do you prefer thin and discreet, or thicker and more absorbent?

Hi Craig well your right depends aren't very good for my urge incontinence have used all throught the night brand with some sucess now use secure,but still looking for the right combination alot of people say cloth and plastic are best.

Cloth diapers are still the standard against which disposables are judged, I suppose. I quit using cloth diapers several years ago, mostly for convenience. I hated having to come home from work and have to wash and dry a load or two of diapers!

Disposables have improved a lot since the original Attends and Depends. These days, my preference is for Molicare Super Plus or Abena X-Plus for work, Equaline Overnight (from the supermarket) for at-home use.

Are disposables noisy? Sometimes. Plastic pants help with that, as will any other

underwear. Don't rely on plastic pants to prevent leaks, though. Do I care about noise? Not really. I don't think anyone's noticed, at least not where I work. They don't 'show' under khakis or jeans. Besides,  people see what they want to see, and hear what they want to hear. Don't worry about it.

I have always worn cloth pin-on diapers and plastic or rubber pants for bedwetting. When I first went back into diapers it was my mom's choice. She said cloth would be cheaper in the long run, more absorbent (and adjustable by adding cloth baby diapers as boosters if necessary), and cloth allows the wearer to feel the wetness, which might help to stop.

I select them on how absorbant they are but i dont want them to be too bulky. I also decide that pullups can sometimes be better since im more active. The abena pullups are very good and absorbant but not too thick or noisy. The most important thing in choosing an incontinence product for me is how comfortable they are, some products are too thick or noisy or too hard to be active in.

Have you tried external catheters (with bag) or male condom catheters which serve as a small drip bag? Some brands call them Mcguire urinals.

I prefer whatever offers the best security for me.  I've been dealing with bladder incontinence for most of my life, and I've tried nearly every product combination out there.

 

I use Abena X-Plus with a Depend booster pad, worn under pull-on plastic pants.  This is a comparatively bulky combination, but it seldom leaks and can truly be worn under nearly every clothing combination I have. 

I've experimented a lot over a while and I just discovered Tena flex super (small) are SUPER! I have urge/frequency incontinence and these are super absorbent, several wettings don't leak it and it's quiet and not hot air flow -- great for summer day wear. there is a belt that fastens around the waist with velcro and (if you can make it to the toilet) the front velcros away fast and you simply hold the product to the side of you or attach the velcro from the front to the belt. simply great product. I was almost content with wearing goodnights, but I do not like the fact changing underwear style protection means undressing in some form. they are also a bit noisy, don't mask odour well. the supplier called the tena flex "sumo" because they look a bit like a sumo garment. I think Attends makes something similar,but they are only available in EU. night I use Attends 10 briefs ... they haven't leaked on me yet. I have some cloth on hand in case of emergency, but I much prefer disposables. experimentation -- research -- good supplier -- trying to get over embarrassment when asked if they are for a senior... I'm 36 I am very glad there are the products we have today -- thank goodness for the aging population... heh.

Due to being very concerned that someone will notice I am wearind a diaper,I prefer thin and discreet when wearing a diaper outside of home.I wear depends when I go out.

I can not get over this feeling that people will know what I am wearing.

I still have a feeling of shame over my wetting problems.

I have been both bladder and bowel incontinant for over 11 years. I have to wear full time and to answer your question it all depends on if we are talking day or night. During the day I usually wear Attends with waistband because of my work and I need a thin very discreet diaper, or I will wear the MegaCareline if I voiding heavily. At night I wear the MegaCareline.

RIGHT NOW I FEEL THAT EVEN IF PEOPLE KNOW IF BETTER THAT WETTING IN PUBLIC WITH A BIG WET STAIN ON MY PANTS , I DO THAT ANYWAY WHEN MY DIAPER LEAKS COZ I AM A HEAVY WETTER , BUT I GOT TO DRINK ALOT TO KEEP FROM COUGHING MY HEAD OFF A BIG CATCH 22 JEFF

I also started out with the store brands, until I had a few accidents in public. I now use abri x plus, but also wear abri body stocking/ underwear. I wear one size smaller than what the label said and they fit snug. It helps to hide the "bulge" and stops some of the noise when moving around. One of the abri x last all day at work and into the evening. I change no more than 3 times in a 24 hour period. It is comforting to have the extra padding.

I usually wear thin during the day with a soaker pad, but if I know I'll be out most of the day I wear a Molicare or Abena (and maybe 2 soakers inside them) with plastic pants and boxer briefs. If someone notices then it's their problem!
