Another condition that may cause Nocturia is Interstitial Cystitis (IC). This condition is a chronic inflammation of the bladder and, in addition to nocturia, can cause mild to severe pain in the lower abdomen/pelvic region of the body. Individuals with nocturia and prolonged pelvic pain should speak with their physicians about testing for IC.

Thanks for the comment Deborah. IC is an often and easily overlooked condition. I didn't realize that nocturia can be a symptom, thanks for bringing it to our attention!

I am trying to avoid surgery on my prostate. I get up 6-7 times a night and I am exhausted the next day. Should I first look at sleep apnea (I have restless leg syndrome) or consider BNP first as the source of nocturia?

My urologist is pointing me at surgery (roto-router) which is the gold standard but the recovery takes months and sometimes it doesn't work.

The quality of life isn't too good right now.
