coping with the pads

By Rick Wednesday, September 05, 2007

I have been dealing with bedwetting all of my life,  It did stop for a short period but came back with a vengence and day time wetting accidents.  With support from my wife and a lot of courage on my part I have seen several urologists over the lat 20 years and have  ahd all the urological tests, many times, have been prescribed all the latest medications.  Most had little effect on my enuresis either by drying me out completely, constipating me, or just slowing the urges seeemed all in vain.

The interstim has been ruled out for my particular case since the success rate was around 20%.

I have annual visits to a great urologist who has helped me.   I have decided that there are a lot less fortunate people in the world and I have accepted the fact that a diaper should not keep anyone confined.

I am very active, I play golf, camp, hike, love the outdoors, and work in the construction field.

I do not broadcast the fact that I wear protective pads (diapers), however, family and most friends know about my situation and it is no big deal.

HOPE YOU COPE

Hello, Rick. Thanks for writing. Welcome to our community.

Your acceptance of being incontinent is an inspiration to others dealing with incontinence. Your outlook and the way you see incontinence as just another part of your life is great - good for you. It would serve all of us well to hear more from you about your thoughts, experiences and coping skills.

Keep writing. I look forward to it. Thank you!

Best,

Maria

Hi Rick after reading alot of stories about the meds and all the test doctors do on people with little results.I just resigned my self to using diapers for my incontinence as I was older when it came on and with some control was hard to adjust to at frist but will no control my life.

Hi Ron, diapers are a pain, especially when traveling.  I have been using them for 25 plus years, primarily for bed wetting.  My condition had worsened to no recognition and ultimately using protection constantly.

Initially I was so self conscious I would not attend a social event.  Now It is not the big deal it once was. Diapers are just underwear that is taped into place.
