Botox for the Bladder

We have all heard about Botox used to reduce signs of aging and as a temporary wrinkle reducer. Do you actually know what Botox is? Botox is short for botulium toxin, the neurotoxin responsible for botulism. Botulism is a muscle paralysis disease we can get from eating affected foods. It can b...

I posted my results from Botox for UI. (See my post on 8/19/2007; search for "Results from Botox") I've been consistently dry now for three months. It definitely worked for me, and the procedure itself was very tolerable.

I had the Boxtox injections for a bladder urgency problem about four weeks ago and, unfortunately, I simply traded one problem for another.  I now have the "rare" side effect of not being able to completely empty my bladder.  The only thing that has been suggested for me to do is to use a catheter twice a day.

Needless to say, I'm quite discouraged and don't know what to do.  Are there any other ways to treat this new problem?

My problems started in 2005 when I had to have a Cystoscopy because the Urologist thought I had Kidney stones. The operation went ahead and he could not get the Cystoscope in so he stretched my bladder. That is when my problems started from then on I was incontinent for 4yrs.Trying all different antichologenics that did not work. In 2005 I had Microplastiqe injections put into my bladder but only lasted 10 day's.Then had futher test done urodynamics and they said it was my pelvic floor muscles that had gone so had a TOT done 27th Dec 2006.This operation only lasted 31/2 mths leaving me incontinent yet again. Went to see the Urologist again at St Mary's hospital and he said he had tried everything possible and could not do anything further to stop the incontinence so in Dec 2008 I had a super pubic catheter inserted under general anesthetic at St Mary's Manchester. On New years eve 2008 it was by passing so called the District Nurses out to change it but when the ballon was deflated it was stuck resulting in me having to go to hospital.I went to change my pad and accidentily pulled my catherter out and was told that another one cannot be put back in as there had been a lot of trauma caused.I had to be transferred to another hospital as the U rologist at my local hospital was ill. I arrived at the other hospital and the Doc and the Urologist tried to re catheterize me and could not get the catheter in as the track had closed. On the 22 January I had another super pubic catheter put in under general anesthetic and by March it had to be removed with my consent as it was by passing again and to keep being changed.I suffered infections in my bladder and was on antibiotics after antibiotics every fortnight I had to take them.So I went to see a the Urologist again at the hospital where the second catheter was put in he inserted injections of Botox into my bladder on the 16th October 2009 and up to now I have been dry and have not had to wear those horrible TENA pads. How long it will last I dont know but to be dry is the most lovliest feeling I have had in 4yrs.

My Mom had botox and has experienced leg and back pain, weak legs and now her left hand and left leg are not moving properly. Any chance the Botox has caused these side effects? Thanks for your answer.
