When Your Incontinence Is a Symptom of Something Else

By Jennifer Sobol, D.O., Health Pro Monday, March 17, 2008
I always find it interesting that while I am taking care of a patient for something, often another family member will say to me, "You know, I should come see you." Many times it is for incontinence, and it is something they have been dealing with for years.  Many people, women in p...

I am concerned about a comment you made in regard to incontinence as an indicator of cancer. That may be true in a lot of cases but to say cancer is a possibility up front like that sort of seems like you have pulled the trigger on the panic pistol. There are many reasons for incontinence other than cancer. There is also more commonality to incontinence than this article would suggest. I think it would have been better said that if incontinence was an issue in somebody's health that there could be a number of causes and a patient should be honest about the condition to medical professionals. Then you should have said further testing may be needed to determine the cause, To say CANCER is like instant depression.

Actually it sounds to me like She is saying cancer testing is indicated not because it is the only or most likely cause but because it can be a cause and is easily treated with early detection. Kind of like getting a pap smear or PSA test.

As to  Kidney Stones, mine did not cause frequent urination, actually about the opposite, but I'm interested in dialgoue with urologists and other patients about this condition. Oncer you have been through it you don't want to do it again, and I have questions both about various prevention regimes touted about (that tend to include avoiding just about everything I like to eat or drink) and also about treatment and recovery.

It looks like there is not a kidney stone community so is this the place for the discussion?
