It was common knowledge in our home. Throughout the warmer seasons of the year our children whether they were trained or not trained, always ran around the house wearing nothing but rubber pants and diapers.

Tormenting, teasing, snickering, or anything else along those lines was not tolerated on any level. I drew a hard stance over such a thing, and dealt with any offenders with a strict and heavy hand.

It's not about embarrassment, shame, or humiliation, it's about helping to get a child through the night comfortably. I kept nothing hidden as far as the diapers went. Everything in the way of the diapers, the rubber pants, the pins, and even the diaper pail remained out in the open and in plain view for all to see, just as if we still had a baby wearing diapers in the home.

Come night-time I quietly took the child or children to their rooms, undressed them, quickly changed them into diapers, and all was said and done. It was always done in a nonchalant manner.

I believe the danger occurs when a mother or parent hides such attire from the child in question, or from other members in the family. This action promotes the belief that diapers are a no-no in a child's eyes, which in turn hightens a child's level of discomfort, creating problems such as withdrawl and acting out. Fits, tantrums, etc.

I'm curious to know, when you diaper your children at night, assuming you still are, do you still diaper them like you did when they were babies such as grabbing their ankles to lift their legs and bottoms up to get the diapers under them and for sprinkling the baby powder (which I assume you use) on them.

Also if they are running around the house wearing nothing but diapers and rubber pants, which I assume means they are not just diapered at bed time does that mean they sometimes have to get their diapers changed before they finally go to bed.

Generally diapers and rubber pants go on about half hour before bedtime.  Once the kids have them on they are encouraged to play quietly or watch TV until it's time to get into bed.

As for the diaperings, there are various ways it can be done.  With the child standing, fold the diapers they way you normally do pull them between the legs, pin them and help or have the child put the rubber pants on.  You may also have the child lie on the bed, lay the diapers out and have the child lay down on them, pin them and put the rubber pants on.  Using baby powder in all cases is up to the individual parents, some bedwetters need it for rash protection and that is usually cornstarch baby powder.

Older bedwetters may want to do this for themselves and in private.  They can be shown how to fold and pin the diapers and then they put the rubber pants on and to make sure that the diapers are completely covered.  Othe bedwetters wear the diapers inside of their underpants and don't need pins, they take the folded diapers and put them in their underpants and they pull the rubber pants up over the underwear and diapers.

Other kids in the family need to be told that they are not to tease the bedwetter and if they do there will be punishment.
