Absorbent Product Design

Do manufacturers and resellers of absorbent incontinence products ever participate in forums such as these? If so they might learn a thing or two about helpful design elements to their products.

For example, recently I decided to try a different brand of a more absorbent beltless undergarment. The product was shrink-wrapped (dontcha hate shrink wrap sometimes) very compactly in several bags of 12 pieces rather than a more convenient 24 or 30 etc. Then each liner has a front to back adhesive strip which is mostly helpful for fitting inside of regular underclothing.

However, it seems best to leave some of the strip intact to avoid clumping or separating. What's more, if you pull out several of them to pack bags to get ready for travel, the adhesive tends to make a bunch of them stick together when you remove several from the bag, sometimes pulling the material apart slightly.

All in all, they arrive in a rather large two box order and will last me awhile. But heck maybe some of us could get a discount or something as product R&D testers.  Anyway, just had to vent a bit. Happy New Year to everyone in our healthcentral.com community!

Hi, John. Good to hear from you again.

Thanks for the great feedback on the incontinence products you tried recently. Sounds like those adhesive strips are a bit of a pain.

Yes, I'm sure manufacturers could indeed learn from this -- and all the knowledge and experience many of you could offer.

Keep writing - we love hearing from you!

Happy New Year to you, too.

It seems like a lot of retailers that are sellling incontinence products are doing only that... not any individual guidance is offered. I'm a nurse who started a company that sells incontinence products but I also treat individuals who are living with it doing core therapy and biofeedback. I would be happy to provide you with product advice any time! I know a lot about the multiple manufacturers out there and all that they offer. So I think I could help you out. You can find me through http://www.continenceconnection.com/ or call toll free 888-356-6993 and we'll chat. I also have a blog with lots of info and participating folks like yourself who contribute greatly and help others feel good about their individual situation. That's located here http://continenceconnection.typepad.com/  I really hope that my company and my work makes a difference in helping to get incontinence understood and out of the closet in America. I hope to connect with you soon!

One thing you've got to do is tell the manufacturer if a product is unsatisfactory. Tell them when it's good, too; you could score free stuff, or at least coupons!

I was a product tester for a company that made waterproof pants for adults. The people who owned it needed real-life feedback, which I was more than happy to provide. I got several items to wear and test, all free. And I got to  keep them when the test period was over. Unfortunately, the products the company made have lasted longer than the company did!

Continence Connection is an online retail store that features only incontinence products and supplies. And yes, we definetly know our products and specialize in coaching individuals into the appropriate product, depending on your unique situation. I am a nurse and started the company myself. My knowlege about incontinence and incontinence products is extensive and because of that, the company is becoming well-known for our personalized customer service. Check us out and please let me know how we can help you! www.ContinenceConnection.com  Through that website you can also access our Blog, which is full of information you may find helpful.

I would also like to share an informational website where you can download a bladder diary and bladder-friendly recipes and learn a lot about incontinence and caring for yourself www.RobinHowe.net and finally www.CoreNurse.com where you can learn about pelvic floor muscle rehab, a therapy that might help you decrease or eliminate incontinence from your life!

I hope you find this helpful.

I honestly doubt if manufacturers or resellers of incontinence products contribute to these forums. This leaves it up to us to develop a product we can use to manage our own incontinence, so, this is what I have done. I have dealt with incontinence most of my life an prefer the good old cloth diaper and waterproof pant for protection. However, plastic and rubber pants get extremely hot and uncomfortable during the summer. This has lead me to a product once manufactured by the R.Duck Company (Top Drawers) back in the late 80' and early 90's.

I have started my own company and have one of the leading US manufacturer's of infant cloth diapering products now making child, teen and adult waterproof pants. These pants are constructed with a 100% polyester shell and waterproof lining. They are much cooler or more comfortable than plastic or rubber pants. Soft elastic at the waist and legs provide for a comfortable and secure fit. The pants are full cut and fit well over cloth diapers or disposable briefs. They are available in several fun prints or white.

Look in any department store and you will see an array of colored and printed undergarments available to children and adults. Why should they have this type of selection and not us? Bumkins Finer Baby Products agreed and now makes an waterproof pant which does not follow the "institutionalized" look of many incontinence products available today.

If you are looking for something new, stop by http://www.changingtimesdiaperco.com and see the product we feel is the alternative to today's plastic and rubber pants. The main reason for joining this forum was to listen to what others are looking for in the way of protection and share my own thoughts and experiences when dealing with incontinence. More will follow in the future.
