My 14 yr old son wears diapers and plastic pants, too

Raylene Gibbs Community Member October 17, 2008
  •     I just found this site and decided I should tell our story too. I hope it helps others. My son always had a bedwetting problem and I wish that I had not taken away his night diapers but I did. Later, my sister finally convinced me to put him back in them. We are all so glad we did this. We lived with the smelly bedroom and daily laundry as well as being fearful of his friends coming over and finding out.

When he was ten, My sister was keeping him for two weeks while I was in a work related shool in the summer. I agreed that it was time and she got him started. She would diaper him along with her 1 and 4 yr old every night and yes at first it was somewhat embarrassing for him. Before the end of the two weeks however, my son was very open about how nice it was to wake up in a dry bed and being warm. he liked it!

We started out with triple thick cloth diapers and Gerber baby pants. When he was 12, I had to start buying the gerber 'toddler' size and I changed to what I always called a 'double double' diaper. I really believe there is nothing that works as well or is as comfy for an infant or child as the old cloth diapers.

My son is now 14 and still in night time double double cloth diapers and he will not go to bed without one on. I have moved up to larger plastic pants for him I buy on the internet which works wonderfully.

This is the best thing we ever did to help my son. His outlook and school work have improved too. If done properly ( however it works for you ) it is a wonderful solution to incontinence. My son wets at night partly due to type II diabetes.

Hi, I have a 9yr old son severe autism, that's making some gains with his potty training. I'd like to know where people have bought plastic pants (the kind that you can just slide over regular underwear, my hope Is to get him put of diapers.

I have found that outside of solutions to a wet bed, the most important thing for children (and adults) is acceptance. In this regard, one of the biggest problems incontinent children have is finding other kids they can talk to about their problem. For this reason, I was asked by some kids to start a forum where they could meet and talk freely about bedwetting in safety. This was a result of most similar sites being overrun by sick people. If you have a child or teen who suffers from incontinence or enuresis, please recommend this site to them. It is a safe site and is closely monitored to keep it safe.

There is no adult site at present but one is planned and there is a parents section where the parents may join in without interrupting the childrens forums. I hope the site can help some of the honest people who have posted here.

Changing a big kids diapers all the time gets really tiring, he really hates wearing a diaper so i hope he can outgrow it some day even if he is adorable in them. I didnt know their were so many people who needed them until i joined this site. That makes me feel a lot better about having a 12 year old still wearing a diaper, because i almost feel like a failure because of it. Although without them he would be a completely different person. My teenager still wets his bed everynight, sometimes days too. He wears cloth diapers and plastic pants every night and sometimes during the day, my teenager finds putting them on himself a little difficuld but i think he prefers me to help him with it. Just wanted to get that off my chest. Feel free to message me anyone. On here or by emailing me at: whiteangie81@yahoo.com, I wouldn't mind hearing from other people and how you deal with it. Feels so much better to talk about it and i know how you feel but i try not to feel too bad about it.

Thanks to Raylene for her honest and non-judgmental approach.  My 14 yr old son and 15 yr old daughter both have had bed wetting problems.  This year we decided, after discussing it with several other moms and a doctor, that they would each be diapered again.  I spoke to them about it and they agreed to try and now they would not have it any other way.  They are diapered every night in small size adult disposables and light weight plastic panties.  They both are able to diaper themselves and keep their diapers and panties in their bedrooms.  Day time proved a bit of a challenge.  They didn't need regular diapers, at least most of the time, but did need some form of coverage.  I tried large overnight feminine pads for my daughter.  She wears them with her panties and usually wears a low cut plastic panty over the nylon briefs.  For my son I have settled on two things.  Depends silouettes under plastic panties is the usual.  One day we were out of silouettes and my daughter suggested the overnight pads.  I discussed it with my son and he was willing because he did not want the embarrassment of wet pants at school.  He tried the pad alone with plastic panties and found it uncomfortable so i took a long shot and suggested he wear a pair of his sisters panties with the pad.  He balked at first but once he had the panties on he admitted that the nylon was very smooth and comfortable. He sometimes wears plastic panties over the panties and pad like his sister.  Neither child is embarrassed any longer as they much prefer to avoid wet pants or wet beds.  When they visit their cousins the cousins have been ordered not to make fun of them and don't.  At school only the nurse knows as she allows them to leave their spare diapers and a change of panties with her.  when they have to change they do it in the privacy of her office.

As I turned 12 yrs old I was in a fosterhome and as I came back from camp my Fostermom put me in diapers for what reason I don't know maybe because it was a long car ride or something else but I remember like yesterday she put me in Huggies and they were her 2 1/2 yr old Daughters diapers and even had put me in plastic pants . Well at the age of 14 yrs old never had any problems until I reached the age of 25 yrs old and ended up screwing up my gut bad I ate doritos , chipdip and eggrolls and ended up in the hospital I found out I had Acid reflux but back then it was mild the older I got the worst it got it wasn't until I was my mid 30's when I had a problem just back 6 days on the road towing cars with a friend and had my kittens laying with me on my bed well the next morning I woke up to a wet bed I blamed my kittens took to there litter box and fond out after changing my bed it was me . I emailed a friend and he told that it was from my acid reflux and other stuff and sent me a care package of diapers and vinyl pants at first I was feeling weird about it but told me not to worry ,

Now I am 41 yrs old and wear them 24/7 and don't feel weird about it it keeps me dry and less washing to do .

They should always be changed in front of people and spanked too to remind them that they are still babies, never be allowed to talk only gurdell and to crawl everywhere, fed only in a highchair with a spoon and real baby food,

This would make sure all boys behave themselves when they come in to socirty

HELLO RAYLENE!  (Please read my story).   There is absolutely nothing wrong at all, with you taking the time to diaper your son.   I believe, it has strengthened your bond, and that will pay dividends.   I, on the other hand, never really had that kind of close attention.   I supposedly was potty trained at age three, but it never fully took.   I continued to wet and mess my pants well into my teenage and adult years.   It of course inhibited me from some things, but other than that, I am perfectly normal, (I work, I pay taxes, etc.).   I began to diaper myself, for lack of another alternative.   I was "babysat" by my cousin once, and she did diaper me, at age thirteen (1971).   I found my bed soaking wet, and she smelled the ammonia immediately.   I was forced to lay back on the soaked sheets, and she then pulled down my pjs and wet underpants.   She called me a "Stinker Pot", and told me that she was going to diaper me.   I had to lift my legs up, while she folded the cloth diapers next to me.  I was exrtremely red with embarrassment, as you could imagine!   I lowered my bottom on them, she applied the Vaselined, and shook out some baby powder.   With the open diaper pins in her mouth, she raised the pad, up between my legs, overlapped the tabs, and inserted the safety pins, and pinned the diapers up.   She shook out the youth sized plastic panties, and popped them on me, adjusting the legs bands all the way around for comfort and protection.   I never ever felt such security, before or since.   It brought me closer to my cousin, although she changed me only the one time.   I miss that intimate contact of many years ago, and quite frankly don't know if I may experience it again, as I am still single, and have no wife to change a wet diaper.   You, on the other hand,  have that now, and one day, when you finally become incontinent yourself again, he will be a dutiful son, and will change your diapers.   At that point, you will realize for yourself, what I am talking about.   You are certainly blessed, it is not a big deal, and take solace in the fact that others are still in diapers too, and leading quite normal lives.   We all aspire to what you have, because you found the remedy that suits you, and you have embraced it.   May we all be as richly blessed.   You and your sister are alright in my book.   I just wish I shared the same experiences as you have, and things might have been different for me.   I still hold out hope, especially if I can find a woman who has experienced incontinence, and I could change her as well.   There is no unpleasantness about changing diapers, if done the right way, that is my belief.   So keep on -- keeping on.   My sincere apologies if I pried too much into your personal business, but when I read your sentiments, I had to respond.   And thank you for listening to mine.   You guys take care.   MARK

That makes me feel a lot better about having an almost 11 year old still wearing a diaper, because i almost feel like a failure because of it. Although without them he would be a completely different person.

When buying diapers look on the website and check out the size range of the products. As far as disposable briefs are concerned they tell you which hip and waist size the briefs will fit. For youth sizes they sometimes also give the weight range the products will fit.

If you have leakage problems with the current diapers/briefs you are using, try these:  Providers Choice Active Ultra Plus diapers at http://www.activewithincontinence.com

They cost more than the store brands...but you get what you pay for, they have velcro refastenable tapes and they are quiet!!!

For many years incontinence has been an issue and first it has been with regards to bedwetting.  Possibly due to the stress in life, commonly found with children growing up such as in my case being bullied in school, a divorce and father leaving to even living in substandard living conditions.  But even though I was ashamed of my bedwetting incidents I would always hide the problem fearing how my mother would react.  And of course I thought about how diapers would make life easier but with limited resources I never bought any or talked to my mother about it.  As time went by other medical issues started developing such as cronic constipation which cause some damage to the rectum.  And finally at the age of 20 when everything seemed to be back to normal I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome as well as incontince associated with it.  When that started I had more the means to turn to diapers as a solution but I still felt ashamed of wearing them due to the stereotype that diapers are for babies or the elderly.  When my mother found out she was concerned yet understanding but broke my trust when she went and told several of the family members.  Now I wear on occation when my bowel start to act up.

I am now 31 years old so I have had about a good 11 years to come to terms with it and accept it.  I do not feel that my medical problem define who I am or what I can accomplish in life.  I was able to work as a registard practical nurse for about 8 years and living with my medical problem has helped me have more compassion of other peoples medical problems.  And now I have my own business.  I was able to find a wife that was able to accept my problem and even have a child and one on the way.  As for hobbies go I was able to get a 2nd degree black belt and be a certified scuba diver.

Now as for reading some of these post I knew there would be some who would be adding there thoughts with regards to issues regarding infantilism and ABDL and thats ok I am not hear to judge.  After doing lots of research online many contacts who have given me great advice were people who were into infantilism / ABDLs.  The way I see it is that we are raised a certain way to fit in with society norms whats acceptable and whats but when you think about it diapers are used for what reason ( and this is my nursing side of me asking ) its to deal or cope with a medical issue.  If that issue is incontince then there is a physical need for them so its justified.  If as for the case of infantilism / ABDLs whats the need ... physocological there was something missing in the past that they havent delt with.  So again there is a medical need if not our physical self then our phycological self.

I dont see the fact that wanting to wearing diapers being a negative thing yes there is a sence of security that it provides.  I can be the first to admit that going out in public diapered is more reassuring then taking the chance of going out not diapered and having an accident.  As for the infantilist as long as your desire to wear in public does not affect others rights such as indicient exposure then there is no harm.

As for those who view diapers as a fetish attraction well when you view sexuality in general many types of fetishs deal with submission, humiliation, certain smells, textures, and so forth so why would a diaper fetish be any weirder then a shoe fetish, foot fetish, plastic, or any other type.  Personally I feel people are quick to judge others of things they arent comfortable in themselves so why stop at little things and lableing people as freaks because of a medical condition whether it is physical or psychological.

If anyone out there would like to chat about anything that I have wrote then by all means I am open minded and all ears.  As for the others I hope I have not offended anyone cause it was not my intentions.

The answer is very easy- Just ask yourself who in gods' name would want to wake up wet? Or suffer the lack of control over ones' bodily functions, or the anxiety of wondering when you can do the things that everyone else does without embarrassment, or the risk thereof.

It's not the 50's anymore, so everyone would do well to be a little more forward thinking,...

She told him that his teacher would bring him to her office between classes and at lunch time so she could check and change his diapers when needed. She usally has to change his at least three to four times a day, at least one of which is poopy.

Ralene as a medical professional of over 26 years, I understand Diabetes II and the problems that go with diabetes type I or II. As for how you are dealing with it, is your choice and his, but I feel that he may be becoming addicted to this help. Suggest to him adult/teen pull-ups such as "Goodnights" or other brands and pull-up vinal overpants for bed time, and for the day time the same. He can change himself and do it relatively quickly without embarresment or on the dependability of others, whether he be 15 or 19 years old as has been suggested. As i write this you may already be doing this, and if thats the case forgive me, as I just found this site. Type II Diabetes is most generally a child/teen problem that can resolve in time or develope into more serious type I (Insulin dependent). Hope all works out for you and him, my prays are with you!

    2nd):

Need Help; You state that you are 15 y/o and had this proble at 13 and now again at 15. Are you actually wetting the bed at night or is this a physiologic occurance that all males and females go throuth at this time in thier life (i.e.: Nauctural emition?) this can begin at different times for pre-teens and teens, and wetting can occur with this. If this didn't occur then and is now this could be the explination and not to worry it will pass, if it didn't occur then the (nauctural emitions), and was wetting purley, the problem could still be the same, and again your body is just catching up, or it could be due to stress or other physiological problems, may-be an underlying psychological problem that you are not aware of or are denying. In any case you should seek out help from a friend, parent or school counselor or family physcian, but in no case should you let this get to you, except as a concern! Wear a pull-up, or training pant with vinal over pants to bed, and if the problem occurs during the day time hours and with-out warning, deffenetly seek a physcians care and inform your parents, as they need to know and can assist you with any needed additional help. As with with above type II diabetes may-be a factor or worse. Don't sit in the dark and hope it goes away, help is available and you need to seek it out! Good Luck!

Now for my question, and a little background on me.

I am a 45 YOM that is single, never married and has no children. As I stated before I am a medical professional of 26 yrs. That profession was as a paramedic with 10 years in an ER and ambulance service and FD as a crew chief (company officer).

In the early 80's I was in the military and on a mission that even today is still classified. I was the recon team leader and FFO (Forward Fire Observer) for a battleship, after calling in a succesful navel strike and trying to get to our evac position, my team was ambushed by a group of rebels. Out of a team of 5 to include myself, one didn't come home alive, but we brought them home as we never leave one of ours behind. I was bayoneted twice, (and yes, contrary to popular belief, bayonetes are still used even today as I write this, and very effectively), once in the liver through my balistic vest and uniform and the second time as I was on the ground trying to recover from the first strike. The bayonete was of the type on AK's and SKS's, round with a "flat screw driver tip". The second thrust didn't go through my balistic vest but was rather placed just under the lower seam and then thrust into me. The penetration wen deep enough the hit my bladder and the controlling nerve to it.

To make a long story short, I have been wearing pull-ups and vinal over pants at night and pull-ups with a small hole in the front and my regular underpants over that during the day. The reason for the hole is to tell me that I need to change my pull-up as well as my underpants, as I now work from home, there is no concern for my wetting in public and have been doing the muscle control exercises and with medication there has been no great change in my problem. I remain having an active life style and haven't changed how I do things, but I would like to know if there are any cotton/terry training pants made for adults, that I can wear with my underpants and even a vinal over pant if needed, say when I do go out for a night on the town. I don't always feel the need to go, and want the security but also the protection with out the expense of pull-ups, bith as a monetary and personnel expense, as I have lost many relationships becuase of a pull-up and or vinal over pant being worn.

Any help with this would be greatly appriciated.

Thank-you, and God Bless all who go through or have a problem like this.

PS: Any help on how to find and keep a relationship with this problem would also be helpful.

Why not use depends underpants? they work great and you and your sister don't have to "diaper" your teenage son, he can do it privately by himself.  Also these pants are not noticable under boxer shorts.

Imagine this if you will...  Every day you go into your son's room it stinks of pot & there are ashes all over the floor.  You are sick of vacuuming the floor every day & smelling the pot.  So, you buy him a bottle of air freshener & an ashtray. ...

This is what it seems to me like you are doing when you put your son into the diaper.  His bladder needs to be able to tell his brain it's time to wake up and pee.  With the diaper & protection, his body knows he can just go whenever.  It's probably going to prolong the problem instead of solving the problem.  There are many different ways to help a late-term bedwetter instead of masking it.  One of my favorites is to set an alarm clock for early morning or whenever it seems he's likely to urinate.  Once it goes off, he goes to the bathroom & back to sleep.  Another good one is to buy a plastic sheet or even an air matress that can be cleaned up.  Late term bed-wetting is rarely forever, but you might be doing harm by training his body to urinate into the diaper and not wake up to go pee.

When he CAN wake up and "go pee" as you say, he WILL. You've obviously never suffered the problem, as it is quite apparent that you have absolutely NO idea what you're talking about.

For very many people, there is simply no awareness of the need to urinate, or the bladder releases before it reaches a capacity to notify you. Quite often, if one wakes...

Leave the woman alone, she's obviously educated herself much farther on the situation than you have, and has proceeded in a manner which is comfortable for everyone involved.

If diapering your son at night is what works best for you both then do so as long as it is necessary, others will disagree, but the important thing is what is right for you and your son.

I put my own plastic pants on and then go to my bedroom and finish getting ready for bed. I don't think of it as any big deal and am gatefull to be able to sleep well and wake up in a dry bed in the morning. I think that what Rob said is true, "if it works then it is fine" Travis is lucky to have a great Mom

The name sounded familiar and, when checking the old Wetbusters bulletin board in the Parents' section, there was a post from Raylene dated 4-26-03 where she claimed she was diapering her "13-year-old son." Now, whether you do new math or old math, a 13-year-old in April 2003 would be 19 today, not 15. Or perhaps none of this really happened in the first place and we have been reading examples of very imaginative creative writing.

Sam's has a product called Odo-Ban. If you soak a wet diaper in water with a couple ounces of this product there is no smell. One can wait until you have a load to wash.

I also have to have a waterproof carseet a portiable changing mat and a diaper bag at all times. People tesed me alot at school so i had to be homeschooled and about 2 times a night i get my diaper changed by the way i wear huggie diapers and i have to wear a onsy becuase my mom got tired of taking my shorts off. I also have to sleep in a crib becuase the waterproof didnt fit my bed. so you can say im treated like a baby. and one time i pooped in my diaper in bed at my school (before i was homeschooled) at naptime and my teacher changed in front of everyone. so i know wat your going through.

And needing to be diapered is not treating him like a baby but a young adult that needs protection.  Jonny

What i want to talk to you about is fishing, do you like fishing or want to go fishing?" or it was something along those lines.

So the boy was quite supprised, that the doc had shifted the focus off of bed weting and never mentioned bedwetting at all in the conversation. except to tell him what fun he was going to have.

Its reported that he did actually go fishing with his father the early the next morning.

and had that night had not wet the bed.

the shrinks idea was to shift the focus completely off the bed wetting thing.

forget about it and he will also.

I dont know if this will work as there may be an underlying physical problem.

but i have heard that accentuating the negative can some times cause a problem

Obviously in this case it may have been

Via this site, we explored the practicality of using a diaper and at his request, have followed through with it. It has literally STOPPED an otherwise nightly issue of a wet bed. He is a very active athlete (hockey) and we placed all decisions regarding management of the issue on his shoulders. He chose using cloth diapers (from GABYS) and a snap-on plastic pant. (from COMCO) I should also add, that at his request, and given the sometimes awkwardness of using diaper pins, I diaper him at bedtime although he can manage the snap-ons on his own. Quite frankly, both my wife and I and his younger brother, were impressed with his maturity in dealing with the decisions here on his own. Wearing a diaper is no big deal!

Though I was wore diapers at 18, I would not have liked my father to see me or worse, to have to powder me or put desitin on me. Also, at that age, I was going out with my friends at night, and would definitely not have wanted my parents to wait up for me till i got home, so that I could be changed for bed. I also had a close friend who was aware of my problem and I enjoyed spending the night at his house. I would not have wanted to bring my father along to make sure I was dressed for bed.

In short, how do you deal with all the personal invasion of privacy and space that diapering your son entails?

I applaud your family attitude with his condition. When I went to my first camp out as a boy scout I wet my sleeping bag. The embarrassment was terrible but thankfully it was only one night and only my tent mate knew (another new scout). At the next campout I was not going to go but the scoutmaster talked to my parents and then my mother approached me and told me that the scoutmaster knew plenty of boys that wore "protection" at night and still went to camp and had nighttime accidents. I reluctantly decided to go and my mother placed 2 snap on youth diapers and plastic underpants in my sleeping bag (this was before disposables). The scoutmaster approached me the first night and suggested I take my "stuff" to the bathroom when I brush my teeth and change in one of the stalls. I did so and was terrified someone would notice beneath my pjs but no one did. Though I was elated I woke up the next morning without an accident the scoutmaster was smart enough to know I had to wear them the second night regardless of the first night. I woke up very wet the final day but very glad my sleeping bag was dry. I changed in a stall and took a shower and put my wet undergarments in a plastic sack that I stowed in my duffle bag. It was several months later and several enjoyable campouts later that I had an accident in my bed at home one night. My mother never mentioned it but while helping her put fresh sheets on my bed (over the plastic mattress cover) I embarrassedly asked if I could wear my "protection" that night.

My mother was not only supportive but told me I was actually being mature about my situation and she retrieved my snap-ons / plastic underpants from a linen closet. For the following year I only had about 12 accidents at home but thankful for my nightly protection. The doctor told me a lot of teenage boys had wetting accidents and it would probably fade out as I grew older.

It seems strange I wore diapers / plastic underpants for about 2 years straight (I always had an accident at camp at least one of the nights) but with my family's support and the scoutmaster not making a big deal about it it seemed OK. When I did stop wearing at home I still took my full protection to campouts through my 14th birthday. Eventually I stopped having accidents even at camp and I outgrew my protective undergarments anyways. But at a following summer camp when I was 15 I was reluctant to sign up and when my mom asked me why I told her I was still afraid of having an accident. My mother caringly asked me if I wanted her to buy me a larger pair of plastic underpants to wear over my underwear at night just for security. I recall crying a bit but more out of appreciation for her offering and she told me not to be ashamed at all but to be proud I was taking steps necessary to go to the camp and be comfortable. She took me out the next day to a specialty medical store and the lady there was very supportive and recommended a style that she said she had sold to many teenage boys over the years and they were high quality. I felt bad about the cost but my father said that was not an issue if I needed them.

Though I wore my larger plastic underpants each night at camp, I only had a small accident one night and my scoutmaster, who knew I was still wearing this protection, asked my parents if I could talk to a younger scout who was in the same situation I was at age 12. I eagerly did so as I knew how it helped me adjust to growing up and still enjoying scouts. I saw this boy on many campouts and we talked a few times about wearing protection but we never dwelled on it much (too much fun with other stuff). At age 16 I wore my larger plastic underpants but did not have any accidents while at a 3 week camp.

For other parents just starting down this path, just be supportive, get the proper undergarments and work with your son to decide together this issue. I hear Goodnights are VERY common now.

The diapers were doing their job but not discouraging me from wetting.

I continued wearing night diapers until college. At that time, wearing a diaper no longer held the social taboo to me and I commenced wearing them often during the day....same result as before, started wetting them more. I now HAVE to wear diapers....

Australia. About 6 months ago I stared to experiance "leakage". At first I was really worried. But after a few weeks I realized that it was only a small amount and not noticeable. However, about 3 months ago the leakage started to become more intense, I started to wear 2 pairs of underwear to stop the leaking seeping into my pants. But soon a light smell of urine started to follow me and comments at school began to be passed around behind my back. Then about two weeks ago I woke up to find myself and my bed soaked. I became extremely anxious and scared. I sprayed my sheets with deodorant and covered the mess hoping no body would find out. Thankfully nobody did, however I think my room and sheets are beginning to smell. I wet the bed two more times that week, twice the next and twice so far this week. I am really worried. I havn't told anyone about this problem due to a fear of what their reaction will be. This is the first time I am telling anybody about my problem.

Is this still the case, and if so does she simply keep him in cloth diapers all day or use disposable during the day and cloth at night, and have you yourself ever had a reason to diaper him during the day other then when he was a baby?

This next question is tricky and I honestly could not think of a tactful way to ask it. Are or were his daytime accidents limited stictly to wetting or did you or sister have to deal with messy diapers on occasion.  The only reason I ask this is because from what I understand a sudden uncontrolled urge to urinate can sometimes cause an uncontrolled bowel movement as well.  If you don't want to answer this part I'll understand.  Rob

On average how many diapers do you go through in a typical week, and do you launder them yourself, or do you use a diaper service, though now a days I think they just refer to themselves as linen services.

Finally do you diaper him while he is lying in bed, on the floor, or do use someting as changing table, such as a low sitting dresser with a flat top.

I appreciated your willingness to answer these questions on suject that can be very sensitive.

Diapering him on his bed seemed akward to me so I only did that on a few occassions before I gave it up. Since I fold his diapers as what I always called a double-double and put a soaker pad in them, I never have any reason to diaper again before morning and I would hate to have to get up to do that and bother him too, if he woke up. I do the diapers along with other laundry here at home but it is really easy because he gets in the shower every morning with that on, slips off his plastic pants and then lets the shower rinse his diaper while he has it on for a little bit. It works great. He unpins one side and can then take it off and toss it in the pail, so after doing this simple thing there isn't hardly anything to offend or cause odors prior to wash day. That is his part to do and it works so well for us.

I grew up in the 70's and like your son I also wet  my bed heavily virtually every night, and like you my mother put me back in diapers and rubber pants when I was about 10 or so.

My mother would diaper me in the same manner you diaper a baby, including gabbing on to my ankles to lift my legs, and she would diaper  me on top of an oak dresser that she used as a changing table.

Sometimes I would wake up during the night and my diaper would be soaked (but the bed would be dry) and since I could not get back to sleep wet I would have to wake her up so she could change me.

She used a diaper service, since my younger sister was a toddler at that time so you can immagine how many diapers we used during a week.

I finally stopped wetting for good shortly before turning 14, but I still remeber those days.

And it might be just as easy for you all as your son might could sart changing his own diapers(fitted briefs) at home & in public. Just a suggestion.

I am figuring you must have gotten my last post however, I do not know as I have no access to email except at home however, I do know that since I started wearing disposable diapers(fitted briefs) I have never been happier & I always carry a small bag with me( I refer to it as my diaper bag & I have enough room in my diaper bag for at least 3 diapers, at least 2-80 packs of baby wipes, & at least 1 or 2 small bottles of J&J Baby Powder(I buy these at my local Dollar Tree Store) & I have a small net mesh pocket on the side of my diaper bag for a kid size tumbler). If I were unable to change my own diapers I might have my Parents changing them however, if your 14 year old son wants to lie down on the carpet & let you and/or your sister change his wet and/or messy diapers then I say go ahead & continue doing it however, I would suggest if it can be afforded that you might want to start buying diapsobale diapers(fiited briefs) so that you and/or your sister do not have to guess everytime your son needs for either of you to change his diaper & also please tell your son that he should not have to feel like he and you or your sister have to be discreet around other family members and/or other people in public and/or privitate which means that if you and your son or your son and your sister are out somewhere in public and/or at a home of another family member and/or a friends house & your son needs his wet and/or messy diaper(s) changed that you and/or your sister should either one be able to feel free to either go into a Family Restroom in public and/or bedroom at the home of another family member and/or have your son lie down on the living room floor(in front of your sister's kids) & change your son's diaper & if your sister's kids ask why their 14 year old cousin is having to have his diaper changed simply explain and/or have your son explain(after his diaper has been changed) that he is unable to hold his wee-wee and/or potty & if he does not wear diapers then he will have wet and/or messed up pants & therefore he has to wear diapers all the time. Please also tell your son that if he ever wants to start sucking his thumb that not to let it bother him because I am 40 & I still suck my thumb(I have not started this yet in public-however when I go back to my M.D. in November I am going to sign a piece of paper stating that all my M.D.'s Office can talk to my Parents about is my having to change appts. -then once I sign this piece of paper I will start sucking my thumb and/or sucking on a baby bottle of water while lying down in an exam room in just my diaper waiting for my M.D. to come in). Please respond to me either on here and/or at this email address blessedfaith1@bellsouth.net    & please tell your son that I said just because he is 14 and still wears diapers does not mean that he cannot lead a normal life as I do  however, you might want to discuss the fact that your son has to wear diapers with his school & any coaches for sports he has & his teachers so that if he has to change disposable diapers(fiited briefs) at school, etc. they will all know why & maybe either let him change in a private room and/or a private restroom where they are no other kids his age around as they did for me when I was in high school. Have a Blessed Day. Annoymus

Everything else is pretty much the same however. The use of baby oil and/or powder is to repel urine from the skin to prevent diaper rash of course. We do have him stand up so we can put his plastic panties on him which is much easier that doing it lying down. No, you are not offending me with the questions. I am glad to answer.

Raylene Sorry, but when you say that your son works in changing the diaper, you're referring only to the fact that he raises her ass to put a diaper? Or you give him the wipes, and he only cleans from?
I ask this because I'm trying to convince my mom to let me clean myself. I'm 12 years old and wearing a diaper at night and during travel. I know I'm too small to change the diaper of my own (I could not fix well the stickers of the diaper, and I could not wash well after the poop), but I would at least clean my penis with myself if I did only pee. Instead, I am always forced to remain lying down, with legs in the air like a baby, and with an adult (mom, dad, aunt or babysitter) who handles my willy. This is really embarrassing at my age.
Also, after our recent beach vacation with relatives, my mom does not arise the problem, seeing that my aunt still changes my cousin (15 years). He wears a diaper 24 / 7 because it has no control: her parents still have to check every time the state of his diaper because he can not tell when it should be changed, they lower her pants in public to control. My cousin is where it gets changed. When we went to the beach, he left the house wearing only a T-shirt, flip flops and a diaper. Arrived at the sea, my aunt undressed in front of all for Jack to put his bathing suit. Upon leaving the beach, Jack was again naked, lying on the deck to get a clean diaper. I could not believe it underwent all this without protest! Unfortunately, Mom has started to imitate my aunt, when leaving the beach to me she took off my bathing suit in public. I did not need a diaper, but I was ashamed to return home the same only in underpants. Finally, the worst thing: the day in an amusement park, I was in diapers (as always in these cases) and changed on a bench in public. There were a lot of kids looking at me! And I was also full of shit.

And aunt carol told my mom about it and actually she sent home some diapers and old rubber pants for me to use until mom and me went shopping for new diapers and other baby things. But that is a whole another story. Now at age 49 i am in diapers 24/7 because of a back injury. I still remember that experience and it made it easier when i became diaper dependent.  Thanks for your letter.... tommy in diapers

Hi everyone.  I am a sixty year old who is diapered 24/7.  I had Encephalitis when I was six from a polio shot.  And when I was twelve years old I had polio because of not being allowed to get anymore polio shots because they might kill me.  T then had kidney stones and the doctor did a roto rooter job on my bladder and penis.  From the time I was six on I was in diapers because of the damage done to me by illness.  But as time progressed I was even worse off because of further illness from the kidney stones and later from diabeties.  When I first had to go back into diapers I was not bothered because I woke up in the hospital wearing them and just accepted the fact as a result of the Encephalitis.

But I had not gone to school yet and when I started school at age seven I was of course teased and made fun of.  But to not wear diapers ment using my regular clothes to pee and poop in.  Not was not an option. of course.  The only other course was to keep me home.  That was not an option either.  So it was school and diaper.  Cloth diapers with plastic pants no plastic diapers yet in the mid fifties.  I had to learn to ignore kids torment early and even into adult hood I was still tormented my bosses and other employees because of illness and and having to wear diapers.  But I think this made me a better more humble person.

I can understand life better and live life better because of the near death tramas and the torture from other misunderstanding people.  So to you parents who have children who must or simply want to wear diapers and plastic pants let them.  And back them up and support them.  They are your children, love them for their individualism for doing what they feel they need to do.  This is always better than them being depressed and going to drugs to get over being depressed or sad.   Diapers are better than wet cold bed sheets.  They are easier to clean and wash than sheets.  Good luck everyone.  Love your children.

      They are young only once.

    Hi Raylene,

First off I'm glad the diapers and plastic pants are working out for you and it's good that your son is cooperative in the matter-many children wouldn't be caught dead in a diaper.I had a question for you.I hope I'm not out of line asking this but I was wondering why your sister diapered your son at 10 years of age. Some time ago a friend told me about an incident when she had to babysit a 6 year old boy.She told me she had to diaper the child before he went to bed.I assume he had a bed-wetting problem because he was past the age of potty training.Apparently he threw a fit-he went running through the house naked and wouldn't let her put the diaper on which at that age I can't say as I blame him.I've heard of other parents diapering older children that wet the bed and I felt that needed to be addressed so I wrote a little about this in one of my shareposts.

My thoughts and feelings on this matter(which I discussed on page 4 of my share post "Ways Parents Can Encourage Older Children,Adolescents, and Teenagers to Wear Diapers to Bed and Other Topics") are this: the older children get the more self-conscious they feel about these kinds of issues.I'm not a parent, pediatrician,or developmental psychologist so I'm definitely not an expert on this situation, but my intuition tells me that above age 3 or 4 a child should be able to diaper themselves unless they have some cognitive and/or physical disability that either makes it difficult for them to perform this function or prevents them from performing it.

If you're worried about your son's diapers leaking because he might not be fastening them correctly you can lay the diapers on his bed, leave the room, and then have him do the diapering himself. Then you can check to make sure he's fastened them correctly. If not you can tell him the correct way to fasten them to prevent leakage. He can also put the plastic pants on by himself.I suggest you read my ideas regarding this issue in the previously mentioned post.Again I hope I'm not out of line with this post,I just strongly believe that children need to be independent in this area because it makes them feel less embarrassed about the situation and it helps improve their self-esteem.By the way have you tried the Comco plastic pants? Their contact info is in my post "Types and Brands of Diapers to Wear for Bed-Wetting and Companies that Sell Them."

            Hello,

This came about after years of my son bedwetting andtrying various things to stop it, all of which failed. My younger sister had often said I should just put him back into diapers and I often considered it and at the same time kept thinking, "Oh he's too old for that". She offered to get him started since at the time she had a 1 yr old and a 4 yr old and was diapering all the time anyway. I had a two week business trip that I had to make and during that time, sis got my son back into diapers and by the time I got home, he had seenhow they work and that wet beds didn't have to be where he woke up every morning anymore.

I'm not real sure how a 3 or 4 yr old would ever diaper themselves at all but I can explain where we are with this. My son cannot get diaper pins in at all, is somewhat afraid if sticking himself and mostly doesn;t seem to care about doing this at all but at the same time, will not go to bed without his diaper on. I put his plastic panties on him to make sure they are covering his diaper properly and also because I want to make sure they don't get torn if he should try to just 'pull them on' you know.

I will read your posts that you mentioned and no, I have not tried to Comco plastic panties but I would like to. I've heard they are quite good.

sounds very cute -- I presume the dress has at least a knee-length hem and is nicely full cut to hide everything.

also -- I've never heard of a well-washed diaper being itchy or scratchy...  :)

Rubber underpants next to her skin is not comfortable.  She needs something to absorb urine if she is incontinent.  That's first, cute is next!!  Ask her to give you more input into how she feels .  She is not a baby anymore.

Sam's has a product called Odo-Ban. If you soak a wet cloth diaper in water that has a couple ounces of this product there is no smell. One can wait until there is a load for washing.

Fetware.com has plastic pants that are high back. There is an extra three inches at the top and you don't get leakage.

I wore cloth baby type diapers and plastic pants from the age of 5. We didn't have the internet, Discussion Groups, or sites like this to compare all the rights and wrongs. All the Doctor's back then would use diapers that I knew of. I had my pants changed by my Mother, Aunts, Doctors and Nurses. Maybe we all just didn't know any better, but I don't even want to admit my age when it wasn't done by someone else.

Do whats best for you. Tell your sister "Thank You". And Good luck. Michael

Please consider trying a bedwetting alarm to cure your sons nightly bedwetting.  They can be very effective.  Often 3 months of consistent use leads to a lifetime of dry nights.  My child wet the bed every single night - sometimes more than once a night.  He used a bedwetting alarm and in less than two months,  he went from wet every night to dry every single night.  It does take a bit of patience in the beginning.  Usually the child will sleep right through the alarm and the parent must wake the child up.  But within 3 weeks my son woke up to the alarm by himself.  And in only 8 weeks he became dry every night.  the website www.braveryandgrace.com has a bunch of positive information about bedwetting.  I really hope every parent struggling with a child's night time bedwetting  strongly considers resolving it by using an alarm.  It is the best decision i ever made.  It really wasn't as difficult as you might think.

I would recommend dry 247s myself. I wear at night myself. xpmedical.com also available for FSA too. I find they are one of the best of the disposable types.

not cheapest though. abena xplus M4's are a runner up but way more bulky.

ya know a year ago I would have thought you were crazy or its ridiculess but Ive come here to learn to cope with incontinence I  have slowly lost all feeling to that area of my body because a spine injury the nurolagist said my body isnt going to feed some muscles and nerves anymore it was a very painfull process I dont feel pain anymore either. I was cathing padding trying to hide it I tried clamps the keagle disposables and I came here and learned about cloth diapers it was hard to do at first. I was very angry this happened to me and still harbor some anger. The first night I slept all night for the first time in a year I didnt have to jump out of bed leaking or sleep light so I could jump up and after 2 months I feel like a million bucks . I think diapers and plastic pants are the best way now it dose feel a little babyish though. Its just part of my personality what I am now I guess these people here have helped me so much to accept that. im a fighter Its hard to give up and do this, research is hope so I havnt given up compleatly, Im just dealing with now and hope some day I can be whole again. I hope your son gets better it is possible, there are exersizes  to help the muscles I did them for years while I had feeling It helped prolong the control he can recover and have a normal life dont just leave him in diapers forever if there is a chance I would give anything to be free of this but it dose'nt look to good right now .

I just wanted to let you know I identified with you cause when all this started before I got better for awhile my mom did the same thing when I was 12 the gerber plastic pants and diapers but I forgot and didnt know they made better ones now I still cant believe im at this point again I hope this helps in some way good luck davidb

      Hi David,

You know, if someone had told me I would have a 14 yr old son in diapers and plastic panties a number of years ago, I would have thought they were crazy too. Because of my son's nightly wetting, I sure thought about it a lot but continually didn't do anything. Yes, I had him checked and part of his wetting is due to type II diabetes which we now watch as close as we can. Well, you know kids. I can now see a change in him if he has a high level even before we check it. While daytime is occassionally a challenge, night time continues to be 'no control'. My sister finally convinced me to get him back in diapers and she is seven years younger than I. I suppose what made that easier is that her little ones were about 2 and 5 then, she had plenty of diapers and my son stayed with her every other weekend. We explained everything to my son and that we would be very discreet ( if possible ) along with him surely being much happier in the mornings with a dry and warm bed. It all worked so wonderfully, more than I had ever hoped I guess. He finally told me he was glad we let him wear diapers and I never thought I would hear that. And thank you for being open about your difficulties too. So many times it is hard to do and so many people do not understand.

I don't understand your sister's approach. Does your son accept this? Since he is dependent on you or her to change him, does she have to remove his diaper every time he needs to use the toilet? It seems rather unfair to him.

You know it's funny not the HAHA funny I thought I was alone in this. I grew up in a family that would have never understood my problem. I have (DDD) Digenerative Disk Disorder my neck is already fused and now the lower back needs it. On top of that I found I had A bladder bigger that normal. Im the begining I would cough and dribble I just figured it was age as I am 45 and have always been very active and physical. But about 3 years ago I wet the bed I passed it off the first time but it happened again. And so it began wearing diapers at night Just to save my laundry bill at first I used throw away ones but then developed a rash and infection and I am a guy very painful. And a year latter I had issues during the day so I used womens pads anything I could think of to hide the small problem. Then it got worse all the while I tried to pretend the problem was not getting worse. So I purchest my first set of cloth diapers and had to learn to use them. Even though it bothers me and I have been told by my doctor it won't change. Now I wear them 24/7 and I have accepted it is a fact of life, You see the websites that say become an adult baby etc if they only knew what it is like not to have a choice. So I say to anyone that has the problem or is starting to get the problem check with your doctor first if it can be fixed please do so. If it can't no matter your age or sex your are not alone it is good to find real people that have the same problem. I have learned to deal with it although it is a real date killer LOL, I hope to anyone reading this for the first time as I was before I posted you are not alone and please don't feel that you are or are alone in this. And if this makes you feel better I used to think a bed wetter was lazy etc kinda funny you don't inderstand until it happens to you.

So I did some reserach and decided to start wearing bikini style rubber panties to control the problem , I wear form fitting tight bikini rubber panties over my regular tight cotton briefs . and even sometimes I will only wear the bikini rubber panties and no cotton briefs ! I hate to admit this , but I have since developed a fetish for liking to feel the rubber against my skin ! although it does get a little hot in them in the summer ! I wear shorts  and tight jeans and no one can tell and I feel much more secure in going out , plus like I said , I now love the feeling ! And believe it or not my new found girl friend gets turned on by seeing me in just my bikini rubber panties ! you can purchase these bikini rubber panties at  ( fetware.com ). Hope my sharing helps you !!

To the person who weighs 90 pounds and needs to know what size diepers to wear. I'd suggest you go online, or a grocery store or even CVS or Walgreens... and go to the ladies section and pick up some "Depends". Im sure on the package, it'll tell you what size they are/ what weight is appropriate for each size. Just a thought.

I got very very good at keeping it a secret, but it took a HUGE emotional toll.  Why should I be so ashamed of something that was not hurting anyone, and not vile and nasty, I had NO ONE to turn to, there was no such thing as the internet when I was 14, I was depressed because I felt like I shouldn't have such desires, but didn't know why and no one else knew.

It was not sexual, these desires had been with me since I was 5 years old and stealing my little brother's diaper's and plastic pants.  I was caught several times while wearing, or washing them, my stashes were discovered several times as well, but I just COULDN't quit.

Now at 41, I am divorced father of 3, my ex couldn't handel my need for diaper and I couldn't give them up, I have 3 children who are aware of my diapers but its not a problem because I decided long ago not to make it into one.

Social norms are what makes diaper good or bad, or referes to them as a garment only for babies.  Only acceptance can change that "social norm"  I can assure you I am a normal 41 year old, I have been in law enforcement and the Army, all while in diapers so stop assuming what a "noral(normal)14 year old boy would say" and accept this young man as he struggles to accept himself.

Hi, I just read your post, and I have to say I feel so badly for you.  I am in the midst of training my 3 young children.  I have sadly made a mistake, as most of us North Americans have done; by following what 'modern science and technology' have been teaching us about toilet training our children.  The fact is that most of the world around us never even use diapers.  They train their children to go to the toilet before the child can even walk.  It has to do with total communication between the mother and child; instead of allowing the child to do their business all day in a diaper while mothers go about doing their own daily chores.  When a child is born; he or she is our main chore!  We are supposed to train that child from the moment he or she is born; while enjoying every minute of it of course!  No wonder children suffer anxiety when we rip their diapers away from them here!  It's been a permanent attachment to their body for 4 years of their lives!  It's like they are getting an operation!  I can speak from experience with doing so to my 5 year old who is still night-wetting; and for my 3 year old who is very anxious about not wearing his anymore.  I vow to do things differently with my baby who is now 1-1/2.  We have to change our way of thinking about our children.  A 1-1/2 year old is no longer a baby, but is an intelligent toddler.  They can do more than we think.  We just have to realize how to communicate with them very early on so we don't do the damage by doing the wrong thing later.

If you lead a active life like I do work and do active hobbies you have to always carry a change of diapers with you so that you can chage if the need arises this means finding some where that is :

      1) private as beening a teen/adult you can just be laid/ lay down on the floor, park bench, grass like a baby as you WILL be arrested for indecent exposer

      2) is clean and dry

      3) has enough space to change in

if you are lucky to find that place then you have to change and then find some way of disposing of the diaper if it is a disposable or carry a wet/messy diaper around with you untill you get home and to cover cloth diaper you WILL have to carry a wet/messy and smelly diaper around with you and trust me a wet cloth diaper is not light.

also although there are people who understand I would say that 99.9% will think that you are wierd, a freek or want to harm thier kids which as we know for most wearers is not turn we just want to stay comfertable and dry

To keep them clean, I soak them in hot water and bleach, rinse and then add water and one cup of white vinegar per load of wash. Stains and odors are eliminated entirely. Hope this helps!

if your son is under stress that can cause stress incontinence ive suffered fron it for years try and calming herbal vitamins and use disposable diapers that breath and powder is a plus so he dosent wind up with diaper rash because there is nothing worse then using an ointment during the day it feels terrible.

Stress incontinence is NOT CAUSED BY STRESS.  It is called stress incontinence due to the fact the bladder empties when it is put under PHYSICAL STRESS. Physical stresses could be from bending, sneezing or stretching.  It is not caused by MENTAL STRESS!

You do realize that this Fetish doesnt start in adulthood. It starts when you are child. Many children who have never worn Nappies have the fetish to wear them. How ever many of them keep it a secret because they dont know how to tell the parents or they dont have any access to Nappies

I reckon feeding your kids will then lead to obesity?  Seriously, if a youngster wants to wear diapers then I'd say he/she ALREADY  has the fetish..The fetish is there first and the diaper is the psychological resolution to the fetish...not the other way around...It'd be like saying putting shoes and socks on your toddler will lead to a foot fetish. ...

I can comment on what it was like for me to develop a diaper fetish.

For me it was pretty simple I think. I tried on a diaper at the age of five out of curiosity, and when my mom giggled at my cute attempts to fasten the tapes, she saw no harm and taped my diaper on nice and snug.  I spent that entire day having my genitals caressed by the extremely soft padding that diapers have. It was the most amazing feeling ever.  It was not a sexual thought that was in my mind, but it created a sexual sensation that created a significant imprint within my brain's sexuality response.

From that moment onward I wanted to wear diapers. At the time it did not actually make me think of sex, I just desired to feel amazing feeling the diapers gave me that day. Being in them was all I could think of.

Today, diapers provides sexual stimulation that is only second to the amazing feelings I get when I have sex with a woman.  However, the ability that diapers have to encase and stimulate my genitals to the level that is almost as good as a woman's vagina is undeniable. I feel I am definitely most sexual towards the diapers themselves, so I'm deep in the DL range of this fetish.

It is very interesting to me how there is such a wide variety of interests within this fetish. It seems that there are many combinations of how people like to enjoy diapers. Some like to wet them or mess them, while others like me get most turned on by them when they are dry. Some prefer to wear diapers for that comfort feeling not so much the sexual stimulation side of things. Some like the diapers only, while others like AB or sissy play while in the diapers. I personally enjoy the feeling of dry diapers. The powdered softness of the padding is amazing as it was first discovered it as a child, but now the full thoughts and feelings of my adult sexual awareness takes it to incredible heights.

this however is not intirley true they may not lose their desire I have liked diapers for years and years and still to this day wear them three times a week.  Just understand your kid can't control his feelings if he does not lose the desire then he is not at fault.

does not help the child learn control at night sooner or later they will be dry!. I am on about children over 3 yrs of age!putting in a Nappy /diaper at night only prolongs the process the bladder to the brain does not say hey you are about to urinate so get up and go to the bathroom if the child wets the bed and has the feeling of wetness that child usually will wake up unless a deep sleeper! that is a problem and why an alarm clock or bedwetting alarm should be used to wake the child or mum and dad could take it in turns to wake the child !.hope this is of help
