I'm James. I have been living with incontinence all my life, and I've never known any difference. I am 16 years old and have bladder and bowel incontinence. I play football for my high school and enjoy other sports such as cross-country and mountain-biking. Although I am an active kid, I DO have to wear diapers everywhere I go. It can be stressful at times, like when I'm trying to put on my football pants. Also at times I need to change my diaper at a difficult time, like during a game, which at times like that I usually just keep the diaper on until I get home, even when its saturated with you-know-what. During the off-season its OK because I get to change as soon as possible or between classes. During the summer is better since I have all this free time and can change into clean diapers 5 or 6 times a day.

Everyone I live with has been really nice about the whole situation. My parents and my little sisters are simpathethic to my problem, and make no big deal with it. I change my own diapers now, but until I turned 13 my parents did. Thank god they make adult diapers!! Without them I wouldn't have been able to live the way I do.

At school, people are mature enough to see that what I go through is no picnic. During elementary and middle school, I was heckled and taunted for my disability, and got beat up a few times. My football team made fun of me at first thay met me in diapers, but they realize that didn't affect my tackling skills. My nick-name is "Diaper-boy", which at first was offensie to me, but became a name of toughness and skill to my teammates.

I got used to the whole situation, and wearing diapers day and night is OK for me. If there is anyone else out there who is a teen with incontinence, day or night, I would love to talk to them so we can share experiences and stuff. Check out my profile.-- comrade90jll

Thanks for writing, James. That's awesome that you're impressing your football teammates.

thanks--  i'm not exactly impressing them, but I've earned their respect.  Sometimes they even wear diapers to practice because I do.. They think its cool, i guess.

Hi there

FYI you can get flushable liners for use in disposable or cloth diaper.  You just dump the liner into the toilet.  /you might find them helpful.

They are made by freestlye and are available at www.nhdcanada.com
