I hope you don't mind if I take this opportunity to ask the rest of you for some advice about my own situation.
Some background: I'm 27 years old and I've had pretty severe stress incontinence for several years now. I've never been pregnant, but I recently got married and I'd like to start a family eventually. I've worked with my primary care doctor for a while and for the last year and a half, I've seen a urogynecologist. I've done Kegels (sp?) until I'm blue in the face, and my situation has not gotten appreciably better. I've also had some urge incontinence for the last six months or so-a distressing new component!
I've discussed the prospect of surgery with my urogyn. He seems to think I'd be a pretty good candidate for it, and I love the idea of an instant fix-the need for pads, the embarassment, and the constant worry have really taken a toll on me. However, he says that the fact that I'm still thinking of having babies is a contraindication for the operation at this point. I've heard from many of my friends that all of these problems get worse during pregnancy and I just dread that idea. Now, as I read about these horrible complications, I just don't know what to think.
I'd love to hear from those of you who have had surgery. What do you see as the pros and cons? Would you do it all again if you had the choice?
Thanks for your input. Again, I wish you the best.

I can sense the frustration here. Hopefully those with expertise can offer advice,
clarification and hope to you as you deal with this. I can only offer my support
as one who is also 'living with it', even tho I'm not female and my incontinence is from
other causes. You've come to a good place to seek information and guidance, which I'm sure will be forthcoming soon.
John.
