Q: My brother, 51 years old, has a supra pubic catheter for about 10 months-wants to remove it

While he was being treated in the hospital for seizures, the supra pubic catheter was inserted due to urinary retention. He has had some success urinating normally when the catheter was blocked with wet diapers and urinating normally but in the nursing home they don't always block it properly. They tie it with rubber bands and i notice some urine always escapes into the bag.

If they remove ithe supra pubic catheter but it does not work out well, is it hard to reinsert again. he does have some pain now with the catheter and now also  has a urinary infection. he would like to rmove the catheter completely. what do you suggest?

thanks,
