Q: I have had a Suprapubic catheter for almost 10 years. Last year a nurse changed the catheter and it

After nothing but blood came out. Then urine with blood for many hours. I went to the hospital and ended up with a uti, this was June 08 began to become incontinent and still am now!!! I have been told two reasons 1, the catheter tip dragged against the bladder wall causing the bleeding and bladder spasms causing the incontinence. 2, the catheter went into my urethra then the balloon inflated causing my urethra to rupture when the catheter was pulled back the inflated balloon hurt my spinxter musle causing my incontinence. Both instances I was told, give it time it will get better it happened in June '08 and there is little change. Help please!!!!!!

This, "just" happened to me. I have very litlle access to Healthcare. As I change my own cath. Also, it is not the first time it happened. Using strait, in and out catheters is the prefered technique. For any Nero Bladder condition. Rejection is caused by your bladder shrinking. using a clamp. Exersise a rutine; Where you release the clamp every hour, at first. In a day or so, you should be able to increase the interval.
