Does the human body produce more Urine as we age, or does it remain about the same?

Since I wear diapers to bed at night and during the day at times,I am curious what to expect.

Hello Andrei,

According to the National Sleep Foundation:

"As we get older, our bodies produce less of an anti-diuretic hormone that enables us to retain fluid. With decreased concentrations of this hormone, we produce more urine at night. The bladder [also] tends to lose holding capacity as we age. Finally, older people are more likely to suffer from medical problems that may have an effect on the bladder."

Also keep in mind that drinking diuretics, such as alcohol and coffee, cause the body to produce more urine.

Hope this info is helpful.

Best to you,

Maria

Hi Andrei:

I just wanted to point out one quick thing I noticed here: if you're leaking to the degree that you need protection (absorbent products / adult diapers), it is important that you speak to a medical professional so that they can rule out any serious causes of incontinence. I don't want to assume that you haven't already spoken to a doctor, but in case anyone else is reading this (or in case you haven't seen a doctor), I just want to point out that people often assume that leakage is "normal" as they age, when in fact it is never "normal" - it always is a symptom of something working incorrectly in the body.
