Q: Pull up diapers for long journeys?

I have seen a few questions asking about kids wearing diapers for long journeys etc. and there seems to be some prejudice. Our family with three kids, and we all wear the pull up type diapers on long journeys. We do stop when possible, but it is not always possible, and we might be on a train where the kids are reluctant to go. They look and feel like regular underwear. The kids know that it is not a substitute for going to the toilet, but also know that there will not be any accidents if they can't. It just makes sense. If they do wet their pull-ups I just give them a fresh pair and all is well. My wife and I did not intend to, but we did once to convince the kids that it was OK, and now it makes sense. Are we unusual or getting the kids in to "bad habits", i.e. they should learn to hold it or find a public toilet if at all possible? Thanks.

People in many occupations use diapers while working (crane operators, deep divers, etc...). Diapers can help while traveling when it's not practical to locate a restroom or they may be filthy. Some people have small or weak bladders and diapers keep them pain and accident free. There is no need for you to feel guilty if they agree to wearing pull ups or diapers. I know as a kid, I needed my diapers to keep things dry traveling and soon after 24/7. Travel use only will not reduce bladder control and can make the trip more pleasurable, it's all in how you as a family approach the subject. I know of several families who have used diapers at theme parks and had a great visit. Reply
