Q: Blood in urine from Super Pubic Catather

Hi

My dad is an 80 yr old gentleman who has a super pubic catather

It seems that is is passing blood in the urine as well

This can happen maybe once a week and the urine can be red colour for a few days and then it stops and urine is clear colour and all is well for few days and then it happens again

Of late when this happens the urine can be a very very dark red (almost black) colour.

We have discussed this with his care team who have scheduled a cystopy (?) for next month for him

They tell us though that they are not too worrried about this as they believe that passing of blood is due to the catather and that the catather tubing can causing inflamatory reaction in the bladder that can cause the bleeding

As for the dark colour of the blood they said they believe this is relating to a stale stagnant bleed and old blood due to an infective soure in the bladder?

I guess we dont understand what the mean by this stale bleed and old blood or what they mean here

Has anyone any familiarity with anything like this or know what they mean by stagnant bleed or old blood - we dont understand really and my dad is anxious about this and if it indicating something more serious~?

Is it that the catather tubing in the bladder is hitting against an old cut or tear in the bladder wall that is causing it to bleed.  If that is the case would/should the blood not be fresh blood from this and a normal red colour not this really dark colour

Thanks inadvance for your help
