Jason, You will find that what is best in regards to incontinence is what works. If a penal clamp works better than diapers than use it. If diapers work better than wear them. But you will find that it takes time to figure that out. What works though must also be what you can live with, diapers are not a 100% answer and I am sure a clamp isn't either. Sleeping, working, trips and much more will decide what you use and what works best. It is frustrating and depressing at times even after you figure out what to use - but there is little else you can do. Managing your incontinence will be some relief but there are times when all goes to hell. Welcome to the club! Papa
I have used diapers and pads for 6 years but have not tried a clamp. I am currently using the McGuire urinal and find that it is a good solution. I have also used external catheters with a bag for the last 6 months. They work also.
Each solution has its drawbacks so it's a matter of experimenting to find what works best for you. A great deal depends on the severity of your incontinence.
Neither, the clamp is dangerous to your health and diapers are both uncomfortable and embarrassing.
I've tried them both, and long ago, opted for the McGuire urinal. The Cunningham clamp cuts off circulation in your penis and therefore is downright dangerous to your health. Diapers have all kinds of issues, not the least of which is embarrassing accidents and business-ending incidents. How can you take this risk?
I am a full-time worker and I travel for work, frequently. Diapers and the clamp are so far out of the question for a 10-hour international flight, it's a no-brainer to look for something more functional. The McGuire urinal meets this need, day in and day out. Even a Foley cath is more desirable than diapers or the clamp, because there is no leakage and no work issues.
So, if you want more information on how to improve your life beyond diapers and the clamp, let me know and I'll share information with you, Jason.
Jim
