Monday, August 04, 2008 BOTOXBARB asks

Q: I have urine retention after having Botox injection over a year ago.

In April of 2007 I had Botox injected in my bladder for incontinence that occured when I changed position (like going from horizontal  to vertical) getting out of bed or up from the couch.  Since then I have had to use a catheter in order to empty my bladder every four hours.  Have you heard of this happening to anyone else?

I have asked this of you before but have never received a response.

Thanks for listening.   BotoxBarb

Did you have urge incontinence? (Sudden urge or spasm that results in leakage.) That is usually what Botox is used for. Almost sounds like you have more stress incontinence.

I have had Botox three times, and while I have had to cath for a short while afterwards, my bladder eventually starts working again. This is usually within a month or so.

If you are still having to cath after a year, makes me wonder what went wrong. I would see my doctor.

How much do drain out?
