After six months, the majority of men experience sufficient recovery from the trauma of these procedures so they no longer leak urine, at least not enough to warrant needing absorbent products.  However, in about 20% of cases, men still have problems that continue beyond a year, in which case other options should be considered, such as a male sling in the case of moderate urinary leakage or an artificial urinary sphincter in the case of more severe symptoms.  For dribbling, pelvic floor muscle exercises are your best action.  If you aren't sure you're doing them correctly, you may need the help of biofeedback and a nurse specialist or physical therapist.  For instructions, contact memberservices@nafc.org or visit the web site www.nafc.org   An audio instruction kit with manual are available. Keep the faith!

Surgery is a last resort and assumes that you do not want to use the various urine collection devices that are available and will be paid for by Medicare (excepting pads and diapers for some reason). I am 8 years after a radical and still mildly to moderately incontinent depending on my activities. Swing a golf club for instance causes moderate leaking. I do have good luck with external catheters with leg bag (go to any web site that supplies various urological products) and also the Afex system (go to Arcus medical. com).
