Can Flomax 0.4 mg and Coumadin (warfarin) be taken within an hour of each other?

Topics:Flomax

I take Warfarin either before or durig a dinner meal and 30 minutes later after the same meal, I take the Flomax 0.4 mg. My doctor is keeping track of the INR for the warfain.

Would it be better to take Flomax after another meal such as lunch and the warfarin during dinner? I'm more interested in putting more time between doses of both medication's which would be about 5 hours apart.  I don't seem to get any concrete answers from the Doctor or Pharmacist. What is your idea on this. I'll only use your opinion for reference purposes and not as a replacement for their advice.

 Thank you,

 John

Hi johncamper,

Thank you for your question! I checked two references - one states there is no interaction between these medications, and the other states that the effect of these two medications taken together is unknown. I think the most important thing when taking both of these medications is to take them consistently. If you've been taking them 30 minutes apart and haven't had problems with your INR levels, then I would say you should continue taking it that way. Coumadin is very sensitive to change in diet, change in medication regimen, etc. If everything's okay right now with the way you're taking the Flomax, and your INR is where you want it to be, you should keep doing what you're doing.

Best of luck,

Casey
