Q: Incontinence and employment

Undecided

About two years ago I applied at a local nursing home as a cna. On the application there was a place to check off, and explain any disabilities. I didn't check that box nor did I write anything in the space about my urinary incontinence problems. Since it was only a "part-time" position (4 hours) I knew I could manage my problem without having to tell my employers about it. After working there for a month my employer had wanted me to work a full-time (8  1/2 ) hour shift for month or two, or until another aid could be hired. It was then that I had to tell my supervisor that I was incontinent and that I wore adult diapers. She got out my application and since I didn't put this down in the disability section and never brought this up at my interveiw I had been less than forthcomming about a disability I was let go. I now am thinking of returning to work again and was wondering what others have done when it comes to filling out applications

I would get a lawer. Incontinence isn't a dissability. Incontinence is an effect of something else. I would put the (something else) down on your application and then if asked specifically about incotinence, tell the truth. At any rate, incontinence is not a disability. Try to claim it on a legal document as a disability and you'll get nothing buy laughed at.
