what is a pessary does it hurt what is involved in getting it done
Pessaries come in various shapes and are placed in a woman's vagina to support the bladder and/or to compress the urethra. Pessaries are selected and fitted by gynecologists, nurse specialists, and nurse practitioners specializing in women's health. They are available by prescription only. They are not painful. Most women learn how to change and clean their pessaries themselves, but often they are managed by a health provider. If properly fitted, it can be a long term solution to managing prolapse or a short term solution for younger women wishing to postpone pelvic surgery.
