My pregnant daughter has had several UTI's during pregnancy. Are antibiotics not killing the germs?

My daughter is expecting her 2nd baby.  She's had UTI's in the past.  But, this pregnancy, she's had them several times.  Her Dr. gives her the same antibiotic every time.  Some doses are for 5 days, some for 7 & some for 10.  It goes away for awhile, but it always returns.  I'm wondering if the antibiotic isn't killing all the germs.  Does it knock them down during the time she's taking the meds., but not enough to get rid of them, and they come back when the meds. are finished?  Each time seems worse than the time before.  Her Dr. is unconcerned, but I don't think this is normal.  What can she do besides drink cranberry juice?  How can she get rid of it once & for all?

It is entirely possible that the bacteria in her urine is resistant to the antibiotic her doctor is prescribing. This has happened to me many times.

Has he done a culture and sensitivity test to see what will work? If not she should insist on it. It's about the only way to determine what will work.
