Q: I am a woman in my 60s and have been diagnosed with interstitial cystitis. What can I do?

Thank you. I have taken elmiron for three months and that has not worked. I have taken Urelle also to help with symptoms. I have tried modifying my diet by paying for a blood food allergy test which came back positive on about 18 food items. I just had another ultrasound and it shows that my bladder is still very inflamed. This problem has made me gain 20 pounds as walking has been too difficult due to frequent urination. Our family loves the Dr Edell show and I hope you can help. Thanks again, Josie

I'm sorry to hear about your struggle - while I don't have IC, and I don't really know a whole lot about it, from what I have heard I've deducted that it sounds very painful and difficult to live with. One tip is to keep in mind that this condition is now sometimes called "painful bladder syndrome", so if you're looking up information online you might try using that search phrase. The interstitial cystitis association might be able to give you some more help: www.ichelp.org.
