I get UTI about 3 times a year, will this effect my in the future, such as kidney failure?

I am only 16 and this has been going on since i was a very little girl. When I was 4 I had to get my ureters dialated. I average about 2 or 3 a year. I went to the doctor just Monday to get checked for a UTI and it turned out to be a very bad kidney infection. My urine was full of bacteria and blood. I was wondering if this will effect me i the future.

Hello. Frequent UTIs and kidney infections are uncomfortable and unfortunate. If severe enough, they can cause damage and worse problems. Please see:

Unfortunately, urinary tract infections can indeed cause some future problems. Because the infection can travel from the bladder up the ureters into the kidneys, they can cause kidney infection (as you've experienced). Chronic UTIs have also been linked with bladder cancer, so you may want to ask your doctor about being tested regularly for bladder cancer. For more information about treatment and prevention of chronic UTIs, you might want to see this site: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000505.htm
