Q: Is tegretol a good convulsion blocker?

I have a granddaughter who has been diagnosied as Austistic but also has seizers.  She is 7 now and they have her on tegretol.  She has not had a seisure in over two years but this morning she has had 11 of them in less than 12 hours.  She has been on tegretol for four years now.  Is this used for controling convultions?
