Q: my 8 year old niece has been having frequent bowel movements in her clothes.

She seems as if she doesn't notice herself, until it is brought to her attention by others. The child is over weight and has a diabetic mother and a fother with cancer. The problem began about 8 months ago, they seem to think she is fine, being lazy about going to the bathroom is their explanation.  As her Aunt that isn't the answer a child should not have 4-5 bowel movements in her clothes,( such as at the movies, skating, birthday parties for example) a the smell is so great everyone notices but her, she gets picked on due to this. Thats abnormal! No child will not bring punishment or embarresment to herself, I know this as a mother of two and also a CNA. Having worked with the elderly this seems to be a similar situation.

why dont you encourage the parents to take this child to her pediatrician and or a child psychiatrist.  this is highly unusual and abnormal for an 8y/o. if the parents are not cooperative in this regard you need to inform child protective services in your area.
