Tuesday, October 27, 2009 Worried asks

Q: One day post-op after sling surgery and my incontinence seems the same as before. Is this normal?

In addition, I am post one year after having a fractured pelvis and do have a bar from my right hip to the pubic bone.

But my incontinence has been getting progressively worse over the course of this year.  That is why I waited to have surgery.  My MD said that the bar on pubic bone does not matter.

                      Thank-you!

No it is not normal that your incontinence is the same as before the TVT. The tape should have tightened the urethra. Sounds like the pelvic floor muscles are not supporting the area. I would try a medical device called Incostress (Medically approved and used in hospitals in Europe. It controls the loss of urine instantly and it also lifts the pelvic floor to allow gentle exercise. There are other products such as the cones, but the difference is, is that you can leave the Incostress in all day. (worn like a tampon)

Another good product I have come accross is the gentle pfilates exercises with the ball http://www.pfilates.com/ This has been tested and marketed by a gynaecologist in the USA.
