Q: I'm having speech prob, word searching diff concentrating since on Detrol LA 4mg, I'm 56 am I crazy?

I am 56year old working, happy healthy female, no prior neuro, psych or speech problems. I had bladder surgery 5 weeks ago, unable to successfully keep foley out for 5 weeks. despiite bladder training, foley reinserted 4 times, ( once a week after being unable to voide and having urinary retension for 24 hr after foley discontinued) I've been on vesacare and then switched to ditropan for 3 weeks, then switched to Detrol LA 4mg daily for past 2 weeks, also foley has been out for 2 days with some problems, but we want to train the bladder and I believe this will be successful but will take time, urine retention is minimal, voide stream pitiful but getting better.  But my question is since on Detrol I have developed speech problems, alot of word searching, small amt of stuttering, I do alot of gesturing to describe what I see in my mind but can't make my mouth and brain say.   One or two word conversation is fine, anything indept and word and speech diff occurs. Other problem is concentratin, writing this takes alot of effort.  I know it sounds like a stroke, but after about 24 hrs of taking the med I seem to be a little better, it seems to wear off a bit.  I have not other symtoms. My doctor is not concerned, he must think I am a mental case, he has been my doc for 25 yrs, I have never been mental except once for a very severe and multi family crisis and tragedy, this was normal saddness for dealing with five very sad circumstances, now resolved. Anyway, should I be worried, I want to stay on Detrol because it has worked the best.  Can this just be psychological?  I am thinking of stopping the med once I can voide better and going back to the other meds.  What I want to know have anyone heard of this side effects before.  Detrol does state dementia can be aggravated, but I haven't had theses symtoms before taking the med.  Has anyone heard or experienced of neuro speech problems before? Thank you for any information.

I can't remember any difficulties with speech, but Detrol definately made me dizzy. Plus, it caused me issues with my vision, which probably contributed to the dizziness.

Makes me wonder if you are having an allergic reaction to it.

I am not a medical person, but I am having this experience with my mother.  Since on detrol LA she has developed extreme difficulty speaking, stuttering, word search, confusion, and in general seems almost "alzheimeric".  I can't get her doctor to admit that the detrol could be the offender.  Recently she refused to take the detrol and within a couple days was having much more normal conversations.  I am taking this information to her doctor next week.  Just maybe we have hit on something.  She went from a totally social, verbal personality to a blubbering, stammering, confused lady.  We are desparate to find some answers.
